Classic monster timeline
« on: March 28, 2010, 10:32:57 PM »
Hey guys I have a question...I'm going to be making a fan film that picks off where the classic series left off and I wanna make sure I get the right time frame and locations so there aren't any continuity mistakes...if anyone has the time make a detailed list of the movies involving Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolfman, and The Mummy (Kharlis) it would be greatly appreciated!

Well, to get you started, here is the logical order in which all of the films in the Frank, Drac, and Wolf series take place.  I never considered including the Mummy in the mix, since the Mummy never has a crossover story with the other three.

Frankenstein
Bride of Frankenstein
Dracula
Dracula's Daughter
Son of Frankenstein
Ghost of Frankenstein
The Wolf Man
Son of Dracula
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man
House of Frankenstein
House of Dracula
Meet Frankenstein

What about key locations? Like what town was Frankensteins castle located at? Wasn't it Visiera? I'm trying to make a visual map of where the places are and how close they would be to each other

The setting of the Frankenstein films changes from picture to picture.  The main village in the first three films is apparently called "Frankenstein" as evidenced in Son of Frankenstein.  In the original and Bride, the lab is located far away (I believe it is near Ingolstadt).  In Son, the "same" lab is right behind the castle in Frankenstein.  The setting shifts to Vasaria in Ghost of Frankenstein, as that is where Ygor takes the monster.

Hey awolfe,

Aura is pretty much on the money as far as the Frankenstein films.  The Towns of Frankenstein and Vasaria would cover it.  As for the location of the tower and all, I'd suggest just leaving it behind the mansion as in Son.

Now The Wolf Man's location starts in Wales (Talbot Hall) and follows mostly the same ground as the Frankenstein films.  And Draclula's locations are Transylvania of course, then London and somewhere in New Orleans (Son of Dracula).  After that, it follows the others.  As for A&C Meet Frankenstein, I personally wouldn't include it in the time/location (as it seems to me that it exists outside them), but if you did, you'd add La Mirada, Florida and the swamp surrounding it .

BTW, I don't have proof of this, but it always seemed to me that that little curly-haired son of Wolf Frankenstein from Son grew up to be Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Franhnk-un-schteen?) from Young Frankenstein.

I love it!  Maybe the experience was too horrible for him that he blacked it out of his memory and thus couldn't remember seeing the monster in young Frankenstein. ;D

This is what I had always assumed too!  Glad to know that there are others out there making this connection, especially since Young borrows so heavily from Son.  I am sure Peter had a good reason for changing his name to Frederick, such as for alliteration purposes, just as he had a good reason for changing the pronunciation of his name.  :D

La Mirada, Florida, would be good if you wanted to include the Creature in your story...  So he swan a little bit.  What's the problem?  :-p

Wasn't the Creature last seen in Florida too?  I know he was in "Revenge", but not sure about "Walks among Us".   And don't forget Kharis (Mummy) was last seen in Louisiana, just a relatively short trip across the Gulf of Mexico...

Thanks for the help guys! I'm really excited to do this fan film! These are the movies that inspired me to get into filmmaking so it would only make sense I give a little something back   :) The story will focus mainly on the big three (Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and The Wolf Man) with Kharis as the supporting monster. I've thought about having a couple of the other monsters making a cameo somewhere in the film as well...

True.  It's also possible that he was named Frederick Peter and his family referred to him by his middle name.

I think you are right.  Once he escaped, I think The Creature ran off to the Everglades.  So, he wouldn't have to swim far at all, or walk maybe, since he had adapted. :p

And SJ, I think we are on to something.  ;)

i didn't make this connection until the Legacy DVD collection came out, when i watch SOF, i damn near fell off my chair.  I would declare Young Frankenstein falls perfectly within the canon.  But I didn't see Frau Bleucher in SOF. 8(..that would men that the Rathbone character was cheating on his wife with his housekeeper.

Hmm...I haven't Watched YF in a while, but I assumed it was Wolf's dad Henry who was cheating on Elizabeth with Frau Bleucher- which would make Frau Bleucher quite a bit older (I guess she preserved well).  She could have possibly been Henry's maidservant Minnie's sister (I shudder to think she was Minnie herself).

When I first saw Frau in some clips before seeing YF, I always thought she was supposed to be Minnie.  And when she first showed up in the film, I said, "Minnie! You have returned!"  But then she started in with these Lugosi-esque mannerisms and intonation, and I was bummed.  "Frau, you aren't Minnie after all, but you're still cool."       8)
