White Zombie: 1985 to 1997/Rob Zombie: 1998 To Present
I'm just curious to see how many UMA'ers are a fans of both White/Rob Zombie? Some people prefer
White Zombie over Rob Zombie's solo career or material. I have to say, I truely am a fan of both.
Musically and aesthetically. I got to see White Zombie in Las Vegas 1989. They played a show in the desert,
very DIY.......and that was a kick butt show!!!! Up until '92', almost 75% of shows were played in the desert.
Mostly, PUNK shows, and those were great shows.

White Zombie in 1989, they were raw, energetic, and f***in' awesome!!! After the show I was definitely
hooked. I looked for every W.Z. LP, 7" or merchandise I could get my hands on, which was almost
impossible. First album I purchased, "Make them Die Slowly" the CD had a title printing error...." Let them Die Slowly"
Later, I bought Soul- Crusher. Both these recordings are/were on Caroline Records( hint, hint). It wasn't until "92"
when W.Z. really took-off in popularity. I'm guessing thanks to the (Mike Judge)BEAVIS and BUTTHEAD show?
I still believe W.Z. would have been popular without that show. B.and B. is a funny show, don't get me wrong.

After their success, I took an interest  in all of the EP's/7" and rare stuff that was becoming more common.
White Zombie merchandise was always the coolest of the cool, from posters to T-shirts. You name it.
But, the same goes for R.Zombie. I was really disappointed when W.Z. disbanded, imagine my surprise.
Oh well........ I am still a fan of anything R.Z. does( except H2).

White Zombie clips didn't start appearing on Beavis & Butthead until 93' but in 92' they did tour as openers for Danzig on the How the Gods Kill tour which may have bumped up interest in them.

There is some "Zombie" talk here http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=7726.0 in a thread about Hellbilly Deluxe 2

Personally I can't stand Make Them Die Slowly, Rob's delivery is just horrendous and repetitive.  I'm not sure how much the producer Andy Wallace had to do with Zombie's improved sound on La Sexorcisto but in my opinion they were not a headlining act before that album.

Wicked Lester

Just to give you an idea how loong I have been into hard music,I fell in love with Sabbath,Cooper an a few others on a 1973 K-Tel double album.
IMO, WZ/ RZ is "okay". A few good songs but never anything mind blowing/hook laden or riff slamming.
Decent enuf hard horror rock/metal. Nothin I would actually pay for.

I was at a friend's house playing darts...well...okay, so we were seeing who could lodge the dart deepest into the wall.
We were jamming out to the late great metal station, before they sold out to a country station...anyways..the radio dj came on
and introduced White Zombie as a new group, the song was "Thunderkiss '65"....it was amazing...
The very next day,I went to local music store and bought the cassette...later on I bought their second album...
When he went solo...I still listened to him...I think Hellbilly deluxe was the last tape I owned...after that...other bands grabbed my attention.
So my faves of WZ/RZ are: Thunder Kiss'65/Black sunshine/More human than human/Never gonna stop/Devilman calling??dont know the name of the song..

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Make them die slowly is not a great LP, I agree.

I've got the Let Sleeping Corpses Lie boxed set.  I've tried, but I just can't get into that early White Zombie stuff.  I like the God of Thunder cover and a couple other songs, but aside from that, I'm not too crazy about their pre-sexorcisto releases.  Overall, I prefer solo Rob Zombie over White Zombie.

Zombie did a good job on the Black Sabbath Remake of "Children of the Grave"

Their (WZ)earlier stuff is kind of weird, almost garage-punk-psychedelic-missmash. I also purchased the Let
Sleeping Corpses lie
box set. Only because I'm a fan of White Zombie....and I didn't have too much rare recordings.
Many people I have talked to, also did not dig WZ's earlier stuff or pre-sexorcisto recordings.

Yep!  A great cover doesn't sound like a carbon copy of the original.  He'd done some good remakes........musically that is!

I like their music on CD but I seen them live a couple of times and he was horrible. I have little respect for bands who cannot play live. I just consider them a studio band.

I haven't seen Rob Zombie in a few years but I would highly recommend that anyone go see him?!?  I think just the opposite, he as well as his fellow bandmates have never failed to put on one hell of a show.  I saw White Zombie for the first time back in '92' when they were still an opening band and probably 5 times since then never a let down.  But that's just my opinion.

I've seen them at Roseland quite a few times and a couple of other shows that I cannot remember but it sounded like Rob was smoking while singing. I don't know, all I know is they didn't sound good and this was every time I saw them live. Can't say the same for other bands I am into but it's clear Rob Zombie takes advantage of the studio when producing albums.

Will be hitting Mayhem Festival tonight!!  Checked out some recent Youtube footage and Rob has definitely let his live show slide, sounds very out of breath during alot of songs....seems like just not even bothering to sing some lyrics...My theory being a vegetarian has finally caught up with him, mentally and physically!!  Humans are designed to eat flesh n' meat and lots of it!!  If nothing else I will enjoy the horror/sci-fi clips he uses and the music itself.  Far as I know cameras are allowed so hope to get some footage as well!
