Thank you everybody for the warm and inviting 'velcome'

Its is a true honor to be a member. We are NOT a corporation and hope that you will find us friendly but please remember that we are bound by licensing rules, the Monsters are not our babies Universal just lend them to us to play with, so we might not always be able to give an answer, which is frustrating to our inner fanboy but ....rules is rules. When ever we can we will always try to give answers... so in that spirit

1) No Frankenstein NASCAR, nice as that sounds our concept is high quality period 1:36 vehicles (roughly 5" to 6") decorated with appropriate graphics and artwork. You can see a similar concept with our Beatles 'famous covers' products. This product is aimed at the mainstream market and will hopefully get monsters product in front of a wider audience. I hope to be able to share concept art soon.

2) We will gladly share concepts and ideas here and ask for opinions

3) The scene replicas are detailed 'replicas' of key scenes with figures and accessories, designed to replicate models that a pre-visualization or art department might have used to plan out key scenes or camera angels in production... that's the official 'cover' , we prefer to call them detailed accurate play-sets for big boys and girls ;-)

4)Affordability is key to us and you will see a wide range of items at a number of price points starting at $15 and under. We are working hard to keep the entry price point prop replicas at $50 and under, these will be complimented by higher priced prop replica items.

5) Figures are tricky, I can say that traditional action figures or dolls are not in our initial line up. To be honest we feel that Sideshow did a stunning job and why try to improve on near perfection? Credit where credit is due after all.  But we love figures too, its what monsters are all about! But to work financially they need to be carried and sell at mainstream retail and the market is just not ready. Fear not, we do have some figure concepts in our line up that will we hope pave the way for more figural things .

6) we area  global company with offices in the USA and UK and worldwide distribution so obtaining our products should not be that hard if your country has distributors and retailers willing to stock them. Plus we will offer direct sales online.

7) We will not have Monsters product to show at NYC toyfair, its simply not ready. We will have other products on display. San Diego Comic-Con will be a big coming out party for our monsters range in 2010. Happy to hear suggestions of other fan centric events we might want to consider getting involved in

Hope that's everything... if I missed your question no offense, I ran out of time.

Barry

Glad to hear that you will have something in everyone's price range. With the economy as such, I'm tapped out. Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you have to offer.

The scene replicas sound very cool!  May I suggest a "no brainer?"  Frankenstein's lab w/ monster on the table, Dr. Frankenstein, Fritz and lab equipment?  If these were done at Marx playset scale, you could do a fairly elaborate scene and still have it be fairly small.

Looking forward to some new Universal monster collectables.  Like has been said before affordable is also nice. I hope stores like Toys R Us or Walmart carry your products. I do like to just walk in and pick something up rather than mail ordering. That would be nice. You mentioned cards. Artbox made a set of Frankenstein cards awhile back and said they were going to do more monsters at least 1 a year. It didn't happen. What kind of cards were you considering?

Barry,

Welcome aboard.  I was wondering if a replica stake from Dracula might be on the list?  In a presentation box this could make a cool gift.

Wow, this is the best news in a long time! Would you guys consider doing polls on this site to help you determine which characters and merchandise lines are most in demand with monster fans? Our group is VERY supportive of any effort to keep these great icons alive (in a dead way, of course). Either way, thank you so much fer reaching out to us.

Welcome to UMA and we are all excited to see your line.  Congrats on getting that license!  Does it allow you to make anything you want, or what exactly are the limitations?   If I might make a suggestion, I would very much like to see some products that look like the photo below, with retail price points between .99 and $1.99 at KMarts nationwide.  (...and this time around I WILL have the foresight to hoard a case of mint in package specimens to sell on Ebay 40 years from now.)  Thank you.

I love the 4th Creature from the right with the Jazz hands ;-)  Brilliant.

Some answers

Dracula stake prop, nice idea, although personally and its just my opinion..... The stake Van Helsing uses in the 1931 Dracula is a 'found' item, a simple stave of wood from the smashed lid of the crate/casket. The stake is not the more crafted or carved purpose built 'tool' that you see in the later films and incarnations of Dracula. Would this not be boring as a replica? Edward Van Sloan rips apart what was presumably a balsa or box board prop lid to 'create' the stake so its not really even a prop in the true sense. (I wonder how many takes it took to get that shot and how many boxes he destroyed and splinters he got?) Its also a big piece of wood, at least 24" long. Honestly is it that exciting as a replica? Really interested to hear more opinions on this.

Sadly we cannot produce 'action figures' at the current time, its not in our license as the rights are somewhat tied up and convoluted. But trust me we are trying to be as creative as we can with what we are permitted to manufacture.

I really want to see Monsters items at mass retail, TRU, WalMart, KMart, Tesco, Carrefour etc etc.. without that mainstream support they will remain on the fringes and younger audiences may miss out on the classic monsters which would be a shame, no a tragedy. After all look what well rounded human beings these movies made us :-) But seriously we have started to discuss Monsters with big retail and they are open to the concept, but they see it as a specialist (collector) or seasonal (Halloween) at the moment  and it may take time to persuade them there is broader appeal.. if indeed there is broader appeal. After all how many 14 to 18 year old's have seen any of the classic monster movies? Not enough in my opinion, there are generations who have missed out on the more cerebral classics and have skipped straight to more visceral and gory fair. Shame....but that has nothing to do with this subject .

Just a couple of suggestions on props............

A replica of Bela's Dracula Medallion would be a nice addition.
The Invisible Man's glasses and or robe
Lon Chaney's Crown in the Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Chaney's Masque of Red Death Mask and or Cane in the Phantom of the Opera
  Frankenstein Boots

Actually, I doubt if Van Sloan did much wood destroying at all.

The shot is quick, and most of it is gesture and done behind the coffin. If you closely watch the scene, he bends down and "breaks"(or maybe just lifts) off a stake that may have already been laying there in a balsa wood pile- preceded by a full fifteen seconds of wood banging/splitting sound effects that sounds like he's tearing a house down (giving the illusion he's actually violently breaking up the coffin lid). Van Sloan is pretty elderly here- I doubt if they'd subject him to any 'splinter risk'(!)

Here is my prop replica "wish list" (in no particular order) -

1. High Priest Of Karnak medallion (from the Chaney Mummy movies)
2. The "protective" medallion from "The Wolf Man"
3. Set of Frankenstein Monster neck bolts
