"A Christmas Story," Directed by Me!
« on: November 06, 2009, 01:37:19 AM »
Fellow UMAers-

I am directing a production of A Christmas Story, adapted from the 1983 film for the stage.  We open next week and play for two weekends.  This is the story of Ralphie and his quest for a Red Ryder BB gun - most of you know it well.

I know it's a little early for Christmas, but this is the season slot we have in Torrance.

It is shaping up rather nicely and I am getting to do something I've always wanted: sneaking in Universal Monster musical cues for background in the appropriate places!  It brings a tear to my eye.

I so wish I could attend!

Sounds like a great time to be had, congratulations!

And yes, any time you can sneak in monster movie music cues is the right time!

So... break a leg... er, leg lamp... er, 'major award'!

Perry I wish you the BEST of luck with this!

By far outside of the Universal Monster films..my favorite film of all time!! Bar none!!

I so wish I could attend this...you better get a move on "If we dont hurry, we'll miss all the good trees!!!"

Also on a side note..has anyone else ever noticed the Glenn Strange Frankenstein mask under the tree with the rest of Randy's gifts while he's passed out in wrapping paper??....Just a cool little connection!

Congrats and Good Luck!!

Marsha, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!  Please send me an email at pshields79(*at*)gmail.com if you know a for-sure date you can make it.

I may not be there Saturday the 14th since that's my 30th high school reunion, but I should be there every other performance.

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes!

Danny - thanks for the wishes.  I know it's short notice, but I just got the flyer last week.  Since this is a city-run theatre program, we have to share a space and the matrix of demand for the space, royalties, and potential audience numbers boils it down to a two-weekend run.  We get three weeks in the big theatre during the summer, but this is more of a black box, thus 90 or so seats.

Marsha - got your message, and thank you again!

Just FYI.

Saw the play yesterday afternoon with my Matt. We LOVED it! Kid can't stop talking about it. It was a sold out show. Laughed so hard my face hurt (and cried a couple of times too). Wish we could go watch it again. Great job Perry and cast and crew.. Matt took pics afterwards with a couple of the kids from the cast. Didn't get to meet Perry, though. Why are people afraid of me? Jk. Seriously, can't stress enough how great it was. Now I really, really want "A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time".

Thanks again, Marsha.  I truly apologize for having to skip out at the end and miss you.  Please tell Matt the same.  Did he notice the music from The Mummy, House of Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man Returns that I slipped in?  It was mostly in the fantasy jungle scene where Ralphie shoots the snake.
