Best of luck to you, Anton...Nothing worse than living with pain. Hope you feel an immediate improvement.

Anton, it's got to be better than a transthoracic discectomy!  I had two discs cut out in 1987.  Since it was in the middle to lower thoracic region, they sawed off a rib, deflated a lung, shoved everything aside, sewed me up inside with several hundred stitches, topped off the outside with 55 staples, leaving a 22 inch scar!  Now I have bone-spurs from calcium build-up on my vertebrae!

Hopefully, your procedure will work.  After you get over your grogginess, let us know how ya feel.  Good luck to you!

Well, I woke up, and I am felling a little sore from the injection site. They tell me I may not be able to tell any major difference for 48 hours, but I feel a little better than I did before the injection. It sounds like what you went through was sheer hades.

My doctor(s) had been speculating what the root cause was. They all seemed to agree RSD. However, what type they all couldn't agree on. the pain specialist states it has nothing to do with my hand injury, but rather feels it is RSD of an organ (kidney related).  I have had a history with kidney stones, and have a duplexed kidney on the left side. The nerve specialist feels that this is organ related rsd.  Stemming from having had my ribs broken several times on the left side, and the trauma of passing several kidney stones.  If this isn't it, then he feels it could be thoracic.  Which I really hope this injection works.  Sedation is bizarre.  I went and had breakfast at Frisch's and bought a dvd at Target, and didn't remember any of it until I saw the receipts and dvd on my desk.  ??? I have to go back on the 13th.

I hope this does work for you my friend.  I know it's rough having medical problems, as I have some too, but keep your hopes up my friend!

Wow!  I feel for ya!  That's gotta be rough.  I'm glad you're at least feeling a little better.  Hang in there and keep us posted (when you're up to it, that is).

Please do not discuss this... ;).  40 is right around the corner.  When I was twenty three, the doctors were sold on the idea that my Kidneys had cancerous growths. They also needed to check my prostate.  It felt as if the doctor shoved a semi tractor trailer in there.  It was a single finger. Needless to say whatever sickness they alleged I had, my devoutly Christian mother was convinced I had nothing.  Turns out she was smarter than all the specialists.  they deemed it either a medical miracle or a mistake. You decide.  I'll be grateful to be alive and thank who I think deserves thanks accordingly.

Meanwhile, these nerve blocks are doing wonders for me. I have one more treatment to go, and aside from a nasty bruise on my hand from repeated iv insertion, and some needle holes on my back,I am relatively un-scarred. The doctor says they generally last 4-6 months.  i can undergo a series of four shots over a 6 week period every six months if its going to make me feel this good.  My kids say i am like a new guy.  i have lightened up quite a bit, laugh a little more often, and have more energy.

if nerve blocks are offered by your physician as a treatment for pain....I say "Wonder Twin Powers activate!".  That's "geek" for "go for it." ;D ;D ;)

Glad to hear you are feeling better my friend!

Me too.
The ironic thing is you can be in great shape/condition and for some reason for most guys once you hit the evil >:D 40 you are so F'D.
I lifted weights seriously since age 21. Peaks and valleys and learning. I hit my prime in strength speed and size at age 38. By age 41 I was an injured as hell old guy struggling to maintain Wts I had lifted at age 23. Pushin 50 with many many joint/shoulder back issues I IZ back to square one brothu doing P.Us , DB curls , BW squats and anything that does not hurt. >:( 400#DL / 300 BP /170 curl again? In my dreams or in the hospital one of the two. Gettin old just plain sucks especially for those of us that USED to be sorta bad assess 6ujr.

Anton, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Problem is, they're treating symptoms and not addressing the problem. I'd strongly suggest seeing an Advanced Certified Rolfer. They use a technique called Structural Integration (aka Rolfing, named after its founder, Dr. Ida Rolf). Its the first thing I'd check out. You may be able to be pain free with just a few treatments, which average just $100 - $150 each. Also, try a book called Pain Free by Pete Egoscue and the Egoscue Method (Google that to find a clinic). They can fix most back problems permanently, safely, and relatively cheaply compared to standard medical stuff. Hope that helps!

I will check it out.  the doctors' (plural) all agree on a diagnosis of organ to organ rsd based on kidney issues and a variety of left flank injuries I have sustained over the years.... :'(
