I did a quick test of the technique with my ghostbusters ghost traps I'm building for halloween.. it works pretty well!

For a 'quick test', you did well.  It looks like the other guy 'clumped up' the filiment with something (quick drying glue?)to add depth in spots and give the perception of more dense properties in and about the 'smoke'.  Keep playing around... trial and error... you're definitely onto something, Gareee.

Wow.  That Godzilla piece is stunning.  If only I had $1000...
"You don't get it, boy.  This isn't a mudhole.  It's an operating table, and I'm the surgeon."

Yeah I figured that out after those shots.. you spray the polyfill with clear coat, and shape it before it dries.. it sticks together better, and will then hold it's shape.

Ahhh.... there you go.  Good stuff.  Hey, if you do anything once you get the technique down----take more pictures and give us an inservice.  Good luck, Gareee.

I'll have both ghost traps completed this week.. the only thing slowing me down is working outside on our deck... and we are having freakish 29 degree weather this weekend! FAR colder then it should actually be.

Our traps have flashing back and front lights, the switch actually works turning them on and off, and I was going to just have light coming from the doors.. but with this fake smoke effect, I'll have white smike coming from the sides of the ghost cartridge, and green "ghost" smoke coming from between the doors on the cartridge itself.

I'm really glad you guys liked these and even more that they've inspired some similar creations! That ghost trap is a great idea and looks fantastic.

As for how big they are, well, I think the first one pictured was about 2 feet across, 19 inches deep and 19 inches high, give or take. I'd assume they are all about the same size.

In a word...AMAZING! That is about as cool and as real as it gets.

     Great.  Wanna see 'em.

I built proton packs and guns last year for halloween, and am adding ghost traps as well to our gear. (As well as an ecto roof rack for my wife's aging Tiburon as well this year.) Here's my wip thread so far for our traps.

You can also see in my signature there, the build thread for the packs I posted there, as well as Ghostbuster Goggles. I even referenced this thread there, when I mentioned the polyfill smoke idea.
