Are they gone already via "Buy it now?"

I picked up a Teena Terror that way a few weeks ago, and I have an alert set up for notification of Mama Kaskit. I have the rest. But thanks for the alert.

I see only three fan-made pendants with KS characters on them, plus a battered Daddy Booregard on eBay at the moment, and he's lacking his clock necklace. That seller have been advertising him for years, on and off.

UPDATE: Ok, that's weird. Another three KS are there now: A Daddy B, Grandma M and Baby S!

I had pretty much forgotten about these toys but this weekend I happened upon a FB page regarding memories of growing up in my hometown.  Reading through some of the posts made me remember about these little ghosts. I knew I had still had a few left and went in search of them and did find the. I have 3 of the baby, 2 of the mother. 2 of the brother , 1 sister and 1 father. Unfortunately none of the accessory pieces survived.  I also think I have the grandmother somewhere--I'll have to keep looking. I never even realized that they had a name--I googled glow in the dark ghost finger puppets and found them. Unbelievable that they are worth so much now. I can remember in my elementary school kids were crazy about them--we traded etc.  I bought mine in bags from a discount store in a nearby town--I grew up in RI (the homebase for Hasbro) so that may have something to do with finding them in bags like that.

I was looking at the site for those Kooky Spooky and I remember that my mother gave me the set in Christmas when she also bought me the Haunted mansion game. I wanted Gun Fight At Ok Corral but she said they did not have it at the Paramus NJ Toys R Us. The first Toys R Us in the nation. So as the story goes she got me this set of Ghosts that were on sale. I think I only got 4 and remember her telling me that the other ones were for girls. I know I got the paper haunted House and my grandmother almost sat on it one day. I kept the house intact but played with the toys along with my Mc Donald's Hamburgler  hand puppet. When you lived in Manhattan in 1969 and they took you to a Mc Donald's it was like going to Coney Island. Anyway I am going to look for the house I think I still have that somewhere. I know I seen it but did not know how important it was....WOW!!!

They really ought to revive these. I bet they'd sell like crazy at Halloween!

catsten, your bagged "Kooky Spooky" ghosts were the ones salvaged from the big post-Christmas resupply, whose cargo container was sunk in the harbour. Their cardboard boxes were sodden, of course, and they were all rebagged with header cards, as "Goofie Goblins", but these didn't get the same distribution. Some collectors have reported finding grains of sand in the "Goofie Goblin" packages.

This might be a good time to repost my Photo Peach slideshow on the Kooky Spookys.

UPDATE: 2021:
PhotoPeach has ended, due to the discontinuation of "Flash". So I have had to move my slideshow to my Facebook page at

It will hopefully be visible at:

I looked at the photo of the bagged Kooky Spooky and that's not how I remember the ones I bought coming. The ones I bought actually came in a large plastic bag with several of them in it--10 or more maybe? I remember having quite a few of these puppets and then trading them with other kids in my school.  I definitely don't remember them being in a bag with some sort of card.  Were they only around in 1968? It seems like I remember them being so popular in my area some time after that--more like the early 70s. I'm wondering if what we saw in my area was leftovers that Hasbro dumped on the local market?

The designs are all marked 1968, but it seems the big TV advertising push wasn't until January thru March 1969. Print ads for the haunted house mail-in were set for February 9. By Halloween 1969, though, they were "on special". Here in Australia, they turned up in stores in our then-August school holidays, in readiness for our Christmas season, but they had totally vanished by the December. We had big plans to get more the next Easter (1970), but the reorders to stores obviously never made it. Earlier in this thread, GodzillaGirl describes buying hers in Japanese packaging in the 70s.

Hasbro probably employed a salvage team to do the repackaging or the remaindered stock retrieved from the water-damaged cargo carrier. Or did Hasbro own Jak Paks (the "Goofie Goblin" rebranding)? Looks like the toys went the way of remaindered books: sold off to new distributors. I can't imagine the joy of finding a plastic grab-bag of ten assorting Kookys! Too cool!

I've read this theard several times over the past few months and I would swear my little sister had some of these guys when she waslittle back in the early/mid 80s. Were they reissued around that time at all? they look so familiar, like a half remembered but familiar part of my childhood....
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

General Mills cereals did a set of their monster mascot characters. They were mail-away items from mid '80s. Actually erasers in several different colored plastic/rubber.

Also, there were the Pineapple Kids Club Glow Ghosts (three little spooks and Catcherpillar, a glowing caterpillar with an eyepatch), in 1986, from a Masters of the Universe magazine:

Those customs are sweet. Do they glow?

Do they glow?

You betcha. A kneaded mixture of two Fimo colours: Lemon and Nightglow. The effect is almost as good as the originals!

I'm going to give that a try. I want to make some custom, half-scale Kooky Spooky repros as Halloween tree ornaments.

Mmmm, well, I finally succumbed to a good "Buy it now" deal on a real Mama Kaskit. This was the character I made a really good custom for last year. She had always seemed to be available mint-in-box, never loose, if/when I was notified of a Mama turning up on eBay. And always very expensive. No glowing flower sign, but I had already made one of those for my custom.

In a separate auction, the same seller had an extremely good quality Baby Spook'em, complete with "Boo!/Help!" sign. I found it hard to leave it behind, so I grabbed that as well. The one from my childhood ended up with a broken sign in the first few years. Ditto Grandma Macreak's umbrella.

When the parcel arrives, I might add "baby blue" painted trim to one of my Spook'ems and create a male twin baby for the family? Perhaps he can be Little Formaldehyde, one of the originally-mooted names for the character when it was being designed? It's funny, as kids, my brothers and I never suspected that Baby Spook'em, in pink-trimmed bonnet, was supposed to be female.
Thiptho lapth,

Regards, Ian.
