Anyone got any Gin? What about potatoes?

You nailed it Meek. That description of Ernest is dead on. I'm a big fan of Ernest Thesiger and would love to see this thread evolve some with Thesiger ephemera and factoids.

Was he, or wasn't he? This always seemed to be a mystery to me. He certainly was Femm like (pun intended). The IMDB lists his spouse as Janette Mary Fernie Ranken. Then again, Charles Laughton was married too.  ;)

Not that any of this matters mind you ... just curious. That's all.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't.  I've always assumed he was, though I don't know much about his biography.

It would be safe to sat that Thesiger "was". Since homosexuality was against the law in Britain many gay men married as a cover. He did write an autobiography called "Practically True" in the late 1920's--this is one of Elder Robert's hard to find Thesiger "grails".
Let's see, dear Ernest was keen on needlepoint and wrote a book about it entitled "Adventures in Needlepoint" or something like that and was good friends with then Queen Mary--such good friends that Ernest took pride in the fact that he sort of resembled her--including the hair-do.
Thesiger did serve in the Army in the First World War, as did James Whale, and once when someone asked him about his wartime experiences his reply was "My dear---the noise and the people."
Thesiger's cousin, Wilfred, was an explorer of some renown and the family was of the petty nobility in England.
