UMA asked to help pick Best Model, Toy or Collectible for 2007

Rondo awards ask Universal Monster Army to help pick Best Model, Toy or Collectible nominees

Hi everybody.  The SIXTH ANNUAL Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards will begin balloting on Jan. 20, 2008 (see details at rondoaward.com), and once again we turn to the Universal Monster Army for help picking this year's nominees in one of our favorite categories -- Best Model, Toy or Collectible.

This category is open to every type of monster toy or collectible, ranging from Big Heads and squiggly monsters to the most intricate resin kits and action figures.  Once the nominees are decided, voting is by email throughout fandom.

Here are the winners in past years, all of which were determined by an email vote:

In 2003, the winner was Sideshow's 12-inch figure of the Creature:

In 2004, the winner was the Zuni fetish doll from Trilogy of Terror:

In 2005, the winner was the Hawthorne Collections' Universal Monsters Village set:

And last year, for work in 2006, the winner was the Universal Headknocker set from Neca:

As you can see, the category is wide-ranging. Last year's nominees also included the Angry Red Spider from Ultratumba, Frankenstein trading cards, Marvel Legends Monsters, the 1:1 Ardeth Bey bust from Sideshow, the Dark Shadows figure set, the Mummy from sideshow, the Castle 8mm cover art reproductions, Universal's rubber jigglers and even Universal boxer shorts and PJs (which got a scarily large number of votes!!).

For this year's vote, we need your help. Which products and creations do you think should be on THIS year's ballot?  Post your choices here and you'll help Rondo come up with the nominees for this year's ballot, which will be unveiled on Jan. 20.

So please help. The UMA has been a big part of the Rondos in recent years, and we hope the tradition can continue anew. And thanx to all who make the UMA such a great part of the monster world we all call home.

Here are a few suggestions:

The Frankenstein Giant PEZ
Monarch Nosferatu model
Moebius Mr. Hyde Auorora reissue
Toy Island Universal Monsters action figures

I don't keep close tabs on Sideshow, so I don't know which premium format figures came out this year.  The Bride?

I think the IT CONQUERED THE WORLD's amazing Beulah from Ultratumba is a possibility. I believe it, er she, debuted this year.

Indeed! How could this have been overlooked? It certainly is worthy!

Did the Kong armature come out in '06 or '07?  If it's valid that's definitely a worthy nomination.  (Hmm, now the wife has just spent a ton on collectible sewing machines I might just have some wiggle room to sneak in one of these babies if I can still find one.)

OK I see where the Kong armature is discussed on a CHFB thread, so I guess I have nothing to add to the list.

It was '07 and definitely one of the coolest collectibles to come out last year!

For some reason, I thought the Kong armature was 06.  It's hard to keep these things straight because there is often such a lag between when a piece is announced and when it actually ships.
