Outstanding!! I went to a small comic book show today and found some deals on Tomb of Dracula, Living Mummy, Son of Satan, Werewolf by Night, and Man-Thing. Also scored #1 issues Marvel Dead by Night and Devil Dinosaur. I plan on posting pics soon---just too lazy lately ;)

Congrats on the new acquisitions.

Yeah, I know what you mean about posting pics of comics. It's gets to be a pain to take out the book, scan it, put it back in the bag, etc., and with so many books it's a bit annoying to only post one book per pic as with a scan. If I post many of my own books from now on I think I'll post 2 or 3 issues per pic still in the bag instead of a scan. When I sell books I always post big hi-res scans of the books out of the bag so prospective buyers can see condition details, but for posting here who cares if every detail is seen. People just want to see the cover art anyway.

Here are some House Of Mystery issues I bought from an eBay seller:

All high grade except for #258 which is in FN/VF (7.0). I needed 2 of these and 3 more turned out to be significant upgrades. If this guy had posted big scans of the front and back covers these books would have sold for much more. I took a bit of a chance and got a bargain.

Got a really good deal on these two lots. I'll sell my upgraded dupes in a few years and make a good profit on what I spent for the lot. I usually buy in lots and hang onto my duplicates to sell later as opposed to buying single issues (especially from big dealers). Single issues bought from the likes of Lone Star Comics and Mile High Comics are very expensive and I've learned I can't really rely on accurate grading regardless of how well established the dealer is. If I don't see good scans of the actual book I'm buying then I don't pay anywhere near full current retail. I'll take a chance on bargain lots with crappy pics if they're cheap enough.

I'm getting close on the full run of House Of Mystery 174-321, just need 19 more. Thankfully they're the later less expensive issues. I grabbed the early ones with the Wrightson and Adams art first. I'm complete on House Of Secrets 81-154, and I'm getting close on Witching Hour. Anyone else trying to finish DC Bronze Horror runs?

Received this Boris Karloff Thriller #1 today:

The eBay seller listed it with a $9.99 opening bid and I bid low and won it ($11). It's in VG (4.0). I don't mind lower grade copies when I can get a good deal, as long as they're complete with good paper quality and no exotic defects that really detract from appearance and condition sustainability (such as rusty staples, heavy soiling, tape, excessive writing, etc.). High grade copies of this book fetch more than I want to pay right now. Everything is always upgradeable. This is a bit of a key issue from a Monster Kid standpoint.

Those House of Mystery issues very cool HH. I don't collect the entire run, but I do collect the I Vampire issues. I'm only missing one issue. I do have a handful of other HOM issues, but mainly collect IV. DC produced some great stuff in the tail end of the bronze era---I Vampire, Swamp Thing vol. II, and Creature Commandos (WWT).

I, Vampire is a fun series.

I like all of the late Silver through Bronze Horror stuff from every company.  ;D That's a lot of stuff, and I'll probably never get it all, but with the huge chunk I have now I'll still keep plugging away at it. Sure is getting expensive though...collectively. My favorite time for this stuff is '60s through the mid '70s. Love that Wrightson, Frazetta (Warren covers), Adams, Ploog, Colan, Kaluta, Jones (Jeff and Bruce), Orlando, Corben, work from that era.

I put together complete, or near complete runs of Ghosts, Weird War, HOM, HOS, The unexpected and others from DC a few years ago. In fact they were the last comic collections I actively pursued before the hobby reached a point where the comics became too expensive for my tastes. I don't know if they "count" here, but I also enjoyed the old giant size Halloween specials featuring Bugs Bunny, etc. I momentarily thought about DC's new Halloween special (from Walmart) , but 5 bucks for only 12 new pages seemed a little steep.

That's the problem with nearly all new comics, the price outstrips the entertainment value (at least for me).

With limited funds in my current situation, and so much I still want to get, I just stopped buying new comics. The only new comic related publication I buy religiously is The Creeps. My comic money is much better spent trying to complete favorite runs from the '70s and earlier. I know back issues are expensive these days, but buying a stack from the LCS every week or two is very expensive as well. The Silver and Bronze books mean a lot more to me than most of the current stuff.

I really enjoy this comicbook. Really great artwork and story-line.

I liked this series too ! The issues with Dave Stevens covers were awesome. I always thought this title was DC's last real effort at their  (non vertigo) mystery line. I seem to recall another company publishing Elvira as well; was it Chaos? I remember it was a black and white, smaller company who's name escapes me at the moment. This is a fun thread! Thanks for keeping it going .
