Black.

I feel a cool breeze on my face. I'm laying on my side. Grass and dirt press into my face. I open my eyes. There's an ungodly taste in my mouth. I pull myself up to one arm and see...

...an elegantly dressed young woman.  She began to explain to me the most peculiar story of how my path and hers crossed the night prior. She explained that she too had once been enthralled by a lycanthrope, until she found freedom from it via an individual she referred to only as "a Shadow." She then proceeded to tell me of a man named Talbot who, along with a certain Doctor named Glendon, seemed to be the utmost authorities on all things that had to do with  a word I would soon become all to familiar with. Lycanthropy.

Little did I know, that at this very moment in time I was being watched, and several photographs were being taken of me and sent
to a church in Romania, where a secret society of hunters gathered, they are known as the Crimson Circle, but I am getting ahead of myself, for all of this becomes unravaled later in my life.

Listening to her speak, I gathered my bearings in the dark, wooded area and noticed a gravel road nearby. When she introduced herself as "Ms. Lane" I noticed two pairs of headlights approaching in the distance. Two black sedans pulled up and she explained we would have to part for now. The drivers exited their vehicles and one escorted Ms. Lane to the first car. I was shown the rear door of the second. As I entered the car, my driver brought my attention to a briefcase on the seat. Later, while heading down the dark gravel road, I opened the briefcase to find...

several documents and photographs of my family history, dating back even to the birth of Christ.
How could this be, I examined the documents, I have never heard of these people ever.
None of this was making any sense, and where was I being taken to.
I heard what sounded like a backfire, and then the back windshield shattered, someone was trying to kill me.
I ducked down in the floorboard, as the car started to pick up speed......

I could clearly see figures moving through the shadows of the trees at each side of the lane. Were these people out to kill me I thought. Panic and fear started to overtake me, I opened the car door and...........................................

...thrust myself from the vehicle. Tumbling onto the gravel road and down a hill, settling into the thickets and underbrush. A closing iris seemed to form around my vision, like an old silent movie, and then blackness engulfed me for what seemed a moment.  I awoke in an ancient building. My curious fingers exploring the newfound wound on my forehead.  Where was I?, and more importantly.........

Why was I here. As I tried to gather my senses and accustom myself to my new surroundings I could hear voices. One was the soft velvet tones of the mysterious woman I had met earlier, but the other voice.......................................

was raspy and hoarse, and sounded angry.  "Why did you let him injure himself?" the newcomer was saying, presumably to the woman.  "You know how important he is."

"I don't though," I managed to mumble, painfully twisting around to try to get a look.  "Why don't you tell me how important I am?"

"Ah, Mr. Wormstein. You're finally awake," said the tall man in a black suit. "If you would Ms. Lane, please attend to Mr. Wormstein's head wound. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mr. Cranston and you've already met Ms. Lane here. No doubt you are unaware of your predicatment but we are here to help you. Let me explain, as fantastic as it may seem, you are"...

"the heir to a centuries-old legacy of esoteric power.  You've no doubt picked up on many of the odd occurences of the evening, but you could hardly know that similar events have been happening to to others of your peculiar lineage all over the world.  There are forces converging, Mr. Wormstein; forces that would be very well served by your immediate demise."

My head was still throbbing, despite Miss Lane's tender mercies, and I still had no idea what he was talking about.  I didn't want to sound stupid, especially to this man, whose eyes seemed to pierce my very core.

Lane picked up on my confusion and whispered while dabbing astringent on my brow, "the Boss says you're the Chosen One."

"Good God, man! Control your faculties!" said Mr. Cranston gruffly. "See if we have a change of clothes for Mr. Wormstein, Margo. Mr. Wormstein, it's obvious you understand the gravity of the situation but this is not the time! Dark forces are converging! You're making me question my decision to give you this."

Mr. Cranston handed me a shiny 1911 Automatic Colt .45, six full clips and said, "Silver bullets."

I took the gun, it felt akward in my hand, I never liked guns, ever since what happened to my brother,
when we were kids.
