No, but I was wrong. Apparently, the first commercial RAP single was Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers Delight" (1979).

It wasn't the melody the Trashmen borrowed; it was the ""Bird is the word" line. Surfin' Bird is actually a nudge-nudge, wink-wink homage to Thunderbird:
