"A chicken ain't chicken 'til he's licken good and fried
Keep on the sunny side
My uncle used to live me but she died

Hamburger cup of coffee lettuce and tomato
Two times a dime to see a man kiss the alligater
One more time around free on the ferris wheel ride
My uncle used to love me but she died."

Roger Miller Rules! ;D

I was raised on the real country music,  By that, I mean the old mostly acoustic--Grand Ole Opry--pedal steel guitar-- Cryin' dyin' and goin' somewhere-- not that Garth Brooksized thinly disguised rock crapola nowdays! ::)
OK!
Off the soapbox!

Which brings to mind one of my favorites:

Country Music Lover

'Little' Jimmy Dickens

Oh I really thought that I'd learned to love her
I even took her home to meet my mother
That's why it breaks my heart to discover
That she aint a country music lover

"Well I already knew we disagreed on politics and religion
And it didn't really bother me too much when I found out she didn't like to go fishin
The trouble all started with them phonograph records I bought her.
Like she thought "Kitty Wells" was a place a cat goes to get water

Oh I really thought that I'd learned to love her  . . .

But friends it didn't take me long to realize that this ol girl was in a fog
Why she even thought that "Ferlin Husky" was some kind of Eskimo dog
She thought "The Texas Troubadour's" were President Johnsons stand
She even thought that "Ernest Tubb" was a sincere place to take a bath

Oh I really thought that I'd learned to love her . . .

Just to think that she'd been to college and travelled around the world
Then the nerve to ask me if "Bobby Bare" was a striptease girl
But what really got my goat and made me explode
Would you believe that she thought "Jonny Cash" was money you find in a commode

Oh I really thought that I'd learned to love her
I even took her home to meet my mother
That's why it breaks my heart to discover
That she aint a country music lover

Man talk about being this, squirly aint the word
Why she even thinks that "Pete Drake" is a duck
"Western Union" is a cowboys underwear
I don't know what ... [ Fade ]

your entire post makes me smile. i just read it , read it again,, and read it again..
thank you for indulging me in my " realllll" country music passion!

Man, I LOVE classic country music. Not this inbred wanna-be soft rock disco hybrid crap they try to pass off as country these days. Garth Brooks ruined the genre.

Man, how wicked was it to stand in Sun Studios right in front of the mike that Elvis and Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins and Charlie Rich and Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis rocked the planet?? Gave me goosebumps!

Amen, Bud!
There should be a special place in Hell for Garth Brooks (and maybe Hank Williams Jr.) for what happened to real country music.  Were Dante alive, he'd probably have named a whole new level on his Inferno.

I was raised listening to KSOP, the country music station in Salt Lake City.  They used to present concerts at the old Terrace Ballroom in downtown SLC.   I saw almost all of the Grand Ole Opry road concerts back in the 60's.  Freddy Hart; Hank Thompson; Minnie Pearl; Grandpa Jones; Sue Thompson; Buck Owens; Hank Snow; Waylon Jennings; Roy Clark; Stonewall Jackson; Little Jimmy Dickens; Johnny Paycheck(and his Little Cashiers!)  Of course, that was all before rocket ships or even plastic, so my memories are pretty dim. I do recall pretty clearly seeing Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton.  But that was in '76 or '77 and I was more into rock by that time.
But that was Real Country Music

I can't even listen to country stations any more, and last I checked there isn't a real classic country station here. Pathetic.

I can kind of relate to what the dinosaurs went through.
With missdead13 as the exception, we're all almost extinct. :'(
