Image Depository * Contribute a pic to our Gallery
« on: January 07, 2008, 11:22:44 AM »
Do any of you have pics that are better than what we already have at our Gallery? If so, please feel free to contribute them here.

Simply insert your better looking pic within a post right here at this thread. After you have done so, one of the mods will "right click save as" and move it into the Gallery.

BTW, Gallery uploading permissions have been restricted to the mods only. This was done as preventative measure in keeping the Gallery clean and organized. The old UMA Yahoo photos section ended up being littered with stray and repetitive pics thereby making for somewhat of a pixel landfill. We didn't want this to happen here. I hope everyone understands.

A few tips to make a better pic:

If it's flat and you've got a scanner and it's no bigger than you're scanner . . . scan it!

Photos:

Shoot subject against a plain (busy patterns make edges harder to see) contrasting background. (Dark subject - light bkgnd. Light subject - dark bkgnd.)

When shooting large flat objects (like a game board), lay object on floor or table and hold the camera perpendicular to the surface.

Make sure subject is well lit. Use fill light to reduce shadows. Try to avoid "hot spots" (light reflecting on shiny objects)

Shoot subject at "eye level" for less distortion. A straight on shot of the front and back (for toys and other 3D objects), is most desirable.

And most important of all . . . FOCUS!   :D

Brace the camera if you notice any distortion in the images you take. Even the slightest, almost imperceptible movements can make your picture less crisp.

Side shots of figures are also desirable.

Yes, if you're using a digicam, might as well take as many angles as you want. They may not all get used, but we'll have a variety to choose from.

*Love* all those graphics!! Even the ones that ripped off Jimmy Bama! Great 60's style artwork.

Thanks Tom! I got a nice big Frank puzzle from one of your pics! Most of the puzzle box pics had one or more corners cut off, though.

Thanks Richard! Those are great! Scanning is always preferable, when possible (i.e. flat things). It's never out of focus and never has light reflections (unless there's some wrinkled shrink wrap on it).

The Jamar box sides are no big deal, because it's just the same graphics that are on the front. I also don't think it's necessary to put up pics of every size, as they are all pretty much the same. Just list all the sizes in the pic's description. I think there were just 3 sizes in the boxes (10x14, 15x20 and 17x22) and the frame tray puzzle.

My thanks, too, Richard!

Scanning is preferable for another reason: no keystoning. That's when you take a photo of something flat but the angle of your camera isn't exactly parallel with the item. Result: an image with one side larger than the other. It's like projecting a movie onto a screen with the screen tilted somewhat sideways-- the image shape is gonna be off.

GREAT photos! Wow!

"Fun for Tiny Tots"? ? Boy, times have changed! Today, you sure couldn't market to toddlers a puzzle that had a guy strapped to a table, blood pouring out of his head, with a syringe next to it.

God bless the parents of Boomer and Gen-X Monster Kids, who gave us such lovely gruesome stuff!

Good point, Mr. Besotted Noggin!
It is really strange!..."fun for tiny tots". What kind of company would market this to an innocent child? And what kind of terrible parent would purchase this for their kid?

Ahem....

Actually, if I would have been given MORE monster toys as a wee lad, I would be a much better citizen and could be doing something useful with my life instead of searching out all the monster toys I don't have yet! If only my folks would have known...they could have saved me countless hours, dollars, and frustrations in the future!!! LOL!!!  ;D

The 3 tray set, as pictured IS how I bought it. Did someone replace Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Pluto Pup with these 3 monster puzzles? Don't know as I'm not the original owner. Stranger things have been marketed but it does seem really odd..."for little fingers"..."for tiny tots"
As I said, this is an "odd duck"

Monster hugs, Max!!!

No I don't mind one bit Richard. Your boxes are much better then mine so they should use yours.
If anyone has better shots of the Mystery game please post them too.

I think the boxes were a bit different (more of the puzzle image was shown, layout, box color, etc) but you are right...it's the same puzzle image.
Well, we've got variations of other things, so why not these? I might do one big picture that best shows the art and one other pic that shows the variation.

It's a complete package that contains 3 of the tray puzzles
Nice! We have a nice pic of the Mummy frame tray.

Here is a nicer scan of the Monster easy peel sticker set.
Very nice! That tiny ebay pic was almost worthless.

Ok, here are 2 images of the Jaymar 3-tray puzzle set.
What size are the frame trays?
