Finally! It's about time too. Moebius Models is the bomb alright. I kinda knew this was coming. I had spoken with Frank at Wonderfest and was really impressed with him. This company is special. Their Jekyll and Hyde kit was the high lite for me at last year's Wonderfest. I bought the Frightening Lightening edition. Super cool and super high quality too! A big salute to Moebius for picking up where Polar Lights left off and refusing to let Aurora monster models die!

This is BIG news!  A lot of people are gonna love it and a lot of people are going to be upset.  Personally, I can't wait!

Count me in the "love it" group.  I can't wait to build my own Big Frankie!

This is truly great news.  I have zero problem with it, and I just laid hands on an original (sans box) and I already own the Japanese vinyl 'recast'.  Great too that they are planning a repro box save for the logo switch.  Perhaps they could make it a Frightening Lightening edition?  Frank states people were advising him they could do it without a Universal license because it is a parody, which is so odd.  It just doesn't work that way and I'm .

Even more exciting is that they have the UM license.  I know it would take some work (getting the rights to the sculpt and breaking that down for prod.), but Big Gilluna in styrene would be a dream come true.  I'd go $150 - $200 for that in an illustrated box without question, and probably find some way to buy two!  Wonder if they could get the rights to use Gogo's painting on a box?  Normally I'd be in to something new (especially if they got some one on par with the fellow who created that fantastic Nosferatu painting for Monarch), but Basil's painting would be a perfect match to the Bama Frank.

The secondary prices on the Polar Lights editions shows that there's still a market for the original Aurora kits.  I'd love to see those again, but even better would be new kits of the monsters with a different take, as well as MOM style kits.  I've always wanted the Erik at the Organ and Metaluna Mutant Dave Cockrum designed.

I talked to the Moebius guy at Wonderfest and tried to convince him to do a Coffin Joe model.  Of course, he had no idea what I was talking about.  But if they should announce a Coffin Joe kit someday, I will be happy to take credit for it.

Ever since Moebius started up, Iíve heard rumors they were going to do Big Frankie. By last fall, however, I couldnít wait any longer and grabbed a resin recast instead. I guess this means I should now be crying in my beerÖ but Iím not and hereís the reason why:

For more than a month, this is what my kitchen table looked like not too long ago. Each day Iíd sit there staring at Big Frankie, paralyzed with indecision about which of three paint-schemes to use (the ones in the reference photos shown). Now Iím not unhappy with the version I eventually chose but I sure do envy the opportunity to take another crack at the old boy. ;D

In other words, NO ONE CAN EVER HAVE TOO MANY GIGANTIC FRANKENSTEINS!

I'm glad I have an original, and I'm glad they are redoing the kit.  I hope it doesn't bankrupt them...

That thread from the modeling board is interesting.  Many of the modelers don't care for Big Frankie it seems, but that make sense since it's a hybrid model/toy.

How much does the Japanese vinyl Big Frankie go for? I don't think I've ever seen one for sale anywhere.

I think it was originally $100.  The price had gone up from there somewhat and I've seen people asking $200 - $250 for them but I'm not sure what they actually sell for because I haven't seen any sales in a while.

Big Franky is an odd model alright. It really doesn't get the respect the other monster models do, and I must admit I can see why too. After all we are talking about a figure that was originally designed to be a motorized toy and not a model. Henceforth the "movable arms" and what not. It's just not a greatly detailed model that begs to be painted. Still, with all this having been said, Big Franky's position in the world of monster collectibles is rock solid as the creme de la creme of monster styrene, and I am equally excited by this news.
