Godzilla Films/Monsters!
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:07:58 PM »
I did'nt see to much stuff about Godzilla here, maybe this could be the thread for all things Godzilla/Toho etc.....What are your favirote Godzilla fims? Who is your favirote Godzilla/Toho monster? Discuss it here!

My fave Godzilla movie is no doubt The Terror Of Mechagodziila!....I dig Mecha alot (gotta take some pics of my toys)

A close 2nd to fave monster would be King Ghidorah/Monster Zero (pretty menacing)

And I have to say I still think Godzilla 1985 kicked butt!

I always likes King Ghidorah and Hedorah.  I like it in Godzilla vs. Hedorah when Godzilla shows up and he seems to be wobbling back and forth and the music makes him seem drunk.

My fav godzilla flick has always been Destroy All Monsters.  A giant monster battle royal.  What a flick!  I'm a big Ghidorah fan myself.

I love all the Godzilla movies, with the exception of the Matthew Broderick American Godzilla FIASCO (kid friendly opinion of that movie).  The ones I love best are all the ones with Mothra in them, which I guess would be around a third to maybe half of them.  I also like the 21st century Gamera movies a lot.  Anything Kaiju, but especially those with mothra included.

i saw a really cool Godzilla movie that came out around 2000 or 2002 and was directed by the Japanese equivalent of Steven Spielberg...he's bad in this one, and fights Mothra. Any of you Godzilla experts know the name of that one?

I believe your speaking of Tokyo S.O.S.

Was it with the grandfather explaining to his grandson things about Mothra, and him making the "symbol" out of class room chairs?

If that rings a bell, then its S.O.S....which was a great film! If you liked that, check out Final Wars..I didnt care too much for the action sequences i.e. car chases etc...but it is a battle royale of "monster proportions"...and you get to see the real Godzilla whoop up that Mathew Broderick iguana Godzilla thing....

No, actually the plot was basically  a sequel to the Raymond Burr film. Godzilla had been laying dormant for 50 years. A skeleton, i guess, but he had slowly been regenerating for five decades. The world leaders covered up what he did to Tokyo, saying it was a natural disaster that destroyed the city... a volcano, iirc.  Godzilla had become a myth/Legend, with some saying it happened, and some saying it did not.

Anyway, The Big G wakes up and starts making a beeline for the city. The military starts to evacuate everyone, but the general's daughter, a newslady, sneaks back into the city with her crew to film Godzilla live.

Meanwhile a cult that worships Mothra awakens THAT creature to defend their island.

What i really liked about it was the  sets, costumes, and direction. (the plot was somewhat topical as well, with government cover-ups and conspiracies, and whatnot)...Godzilla was still a guy in a costume, but the spikes were bigger, and his eyes had no pupils, making him look evil as hell. His tail was CGI, so it looked real.

Cool movie.
