Talk about collections...but not monsters though

Check out the video of this collection.  They apparently just started selling off part of it.

That was a really cool video, great stuff too!

Kinda sad though, I mean I know its their decision to sell it off but why are they doing it?

Thats one thing I've learned, if I buy it because I really love it, its staying. I got rid of a car I loved, regretted it..big mistake. I traded a Star Wars figure when I was a kid for something stupid like a Zippo lighter and Im still kicking myself for it.

I guess though if you run into trouble, you do what you have to. Just happy I havent had to!

I would imagine that he wanted to sell it off while he was alive so that he could see who got what in the auction.  Maybe he has no kids or none that shared his passion for the hobby.  With the kind of money that he's making off of these auctions, he can live pretty comfortably and still leave a nice inheritance to his family.

Yeah Im sure your right, plus I would think he is gonna save a few things for himself. Either way, I'm sure he knows what he's doing and he's prob not gonna have too much to complain about with the money some of that stuff goes for.

Rob thanks for the link - I really liked that part about "the toys aren't his, he's just taking care of them for this period of time". Great story! (he's in New Jersey right?)

That was an awesome video! Thanks for posting that. Not sure why he's selling either, but I would definitely want to sell all my stuff once before I go. I remember reading a story of a guy who spent his whole life collecting pencils (weird, I know, but it's what he loved) and when he died... he kids just got rid of them all. I forget if they threw them away or what ( I can't find the article now), but his next generation cared nothing for his passion and a lifetime's worth of dedication all went to waste.

What a great soft-spoken guy. Thanks for posting this. I'm always interested in people's collections, no matter what they are.

I love the moment when it goes from you just picking up whatever it is when you can to suddenly you've become an expert on those things you collect.

"There's always room for one more toy." I love that.

Wow Dave I'd have loved to have seen that pencil collection. I saw photos of a guy's phone collection that filled a warehouse once.

Phantom Creep,

Robert Taylor and I have discussed this before that we are interested in collections even if they are something outside of realm of interest.  When I meet new people, I usually ask if they collect anything.  Sometimes, if I have something that someone is interested in, I'll give them something that they may want.  I seem to accumulate stuff and it's nice to contribute to someone's collection.  Feed the fires of collecting insanity--that's my motto.

I agree, and I do the same thing. I often end up with stuff that was too good to pass up but then if I come across someone that that's more their thing I'll pass it on. I really do have that feeling of trying to give this stuff a good home. It's collecting and archiving, but it's also preserving.

I also, and this isn't my way of soliciting for free stuff, love when people are my friends and I get something from them to put into my 'museum'. It's kinda like they are now represented there. I owe a part of the collection to them. I really like being able to say,"This -blank- came from -blank-".

I find what people collect and why they collect it fascinating.

Sorry, I can't find the link about that pencil collection that I was thinking of, and if I remember right, it wasn't even pictured anyway. It was just an article about collecting in general.
