Ed Roth "Race?" resin garage kit...
« on: January 17, 2020, 02:14:38 PM »
I'm a hardcore collector of all that is Roth and Rat Fink.  This resin garage kit, sculpted and cast by the late Gerry Pitre is one of my prized possessions.  I finished it last year.  There were very few made, and they are pretty much impossible to find.  Getting this model to this level required a lot of massaging.  If you'd like to read the story of this kits travels, there is a link at the end of the post.

You're not alone. Many of us on this board share your enthusiasm for "Big Daddy" Roth and his Fink family creations.

THIS IS WHAT THE ORIGINAL BOXED KIT LOOKED LIKE

Hey! Not a bad number of parts at all for a resin kit.

I've seen House of Kolors booths at custom car shows. And back in 1978 I got my 1973 Dodge Charger painted with urethane acrylic paint. All of which raises the question of whether the paints you used are available at your local hobby shop or whether you get them at an auto supply outlet.

I fondly remember when Rat Fink and Big Daddy were the craze in the early '60s or so.  I think I had a couple of the small Rat Fink creatures.  I also remember an older kid down the street was airbrushing T-shirts with car monsters like Ed drew and I got my mom to buy me one.  Now I have some Ed Roth/Rat Fink model kits and I have built three or four of them and have more in my stash. Here are the ones I have built:

Here's "Big Daddy" Roth's original "Race?" design with line art by the legendary Ed "Newt" Newton:

I actually met Ed at a car show before he passed away. He was a very humble person and appreciated his fans. I remember ordering his cool t-shirts from the ads in Car Craft magazine. I bought his book, and a shirt from him and he signed both and did not charge extra for the signature. He will be missed.

Where was the show?

I remember ordering his cool t-shirts from the ads in Car Craft magazine.

What year? Which shirts?

I bought his book....

Which book? I know of three anyway.

The show was in Auburn Massachusetts. Cannot recall the date, probably mid 1990s. The book was Confessions Of A Rat Fink and the shirt was Rat Fink. Like an idiot, I sold the book and the shirt.
