Revell Frankenstein Kit
« on: July 18, 2023, 01:18:29 PM »
Hello!

I watched probably all the Universal monster movies when I was about 10.  They came on TV every afternoon after school.  I was fascinated by these movies and learned how to read Roman numerals because I was really into what year they were made.

I just rediscovered these movies when I bought the Frankenstein collection on Blu ray.

Ok - now I want to build the Aurora Frankenstein kit.  Never had it as a kid….

So - is this pretty close?

Welcome to the UMA, Alchemist!  :)

Yep! Same kit, whether it's Aurora, Monogram, Revell, Polar Lights, or whoever else re-reissued it. Long as he's standin' on that grave.  ;D

If you want to spend the extra money, you can get a nice repro of the original Aurora long box to display with your finished kit.

Have you built and painted many kits over the years?

I attended the Houston Horror Film Fest this weekend and picked up a Polar Lights version of Frankenstein ‘s monster for $80.00, sealed from one of the vendors!

I’m pretty excited.  Now to decide how I’m going to paint him.  I believe I’m going to paint him up like the AHI Frankenstein action figure:

Black boots, brown undershirt, black jacket and pants, pale green skin, blue around the eyes, etc.

Either that or I’ll paint him “stock” according to the instructions:

Brown boots, gray undershirt.  I’m leaning toward AHI’s interpretation.

What’s interesting is that green skin makes no sense in reality.  Blue skin, pale skin, yellow skin - those tones are more in line with the novel and reality but hey….he’s gotta be green!  I read that they did make up Karloff in green so his skin would show up differently than the other actors on black and white film but green wasn’t the intended look.  Well…it is now!

It’s going to take me a while to get to work on him but when I get him finished, I’ll post photos.

Thank you all for the information.

Now that I think about it, I guess I have built quite a few kits in my 59 years!  The most difficult was a vaccu-formed substandard Lost in Space Robot kit from Lunar Models.  That kit was junk!  But, I made the robot, he looks pretty good, and I still have him.  There was NO WAY I could find a quality Robot model kit back in 1989.  Now they’re all over the place.  That Möbius kit is the most screen accurate I’ve ever seen but that’ll have to wait until Frankenstein is finished!!!!

Just finished a ‘39 ford model, an ‘89 Batmobile, a Herbie car and am about to start on an Aurora Batman kit.

I don’t consider myself to be an expert modeler at all, tho.  I just want to do the best I can with rattle cans on my off time.
