Don Post Frankenstein 100 Line [Pics]

So here's a mask you don't see too often, DP Frankenstein 100 Line. I got this as a blank & assume its a modern pull,  don't know who made it. I think these originally came out in the early 60s? the DP book doesn't really mention it & only has a catalog pic. Anyway i just got done doing a simple paint job on it & am happy how it came out

It was little dime store masks like this that sustained Post Studios throughout its long history.

Nice job, Spinal! As much as I love modern masks with their fancy paint schemes, this brings me back to my youth.

He's been around since the 50s with at least 2 different sculpts.  The ealiest by Don sr. has much heavier eyelids and is the version seen in most old b+w pics. He carried over into the 70s  and was oddly included in 150 line assortmants.

The later sculpt we see modern casings of, and in the Brady ep was possibly sculpted  by Pat Newman or Ellis Burman.  Sadly no definitive history exists on him.

Here's one I painted up awhile back to look like the darker  dashboard vinyl version .     He's commonly referred to as the B-2 Frankenstein.

yours looks great Dr.Terror, thats kinda the look i was going for on mine. Here's a cool pic from 1955 of the full over the head version:

Thats  the face mask also.
  You can really see how different the eyelids  etc..are compared to ours in that pic. They are almost slits.

Thanks guys for the always fun and interesting posts and photos.  Here are a few photos of my first Don Post Frankenstein masks.  I got my first Frankenstein in a very cool costume/magic shop in downtown Berwyn, Illinois.  They had a whole treasure chest full of these masks.  Berwyn is a neat old historic town which has now become famous by our beloved Sven.

This is a photo of me on the left with neighborhood friend Bobby in 1971 with a Frankenstein that I built in our basement. Unfortunately this Don Post Frankie mask and flesh hands were stolen by some local thugs on a Halloween night. I built a full-sized Frankie that year for Halloween. His suit and stuffing were later found stroon about the neighborhood by my older brother Rich.  Luckily they left my dad’s army boots from the Korean war but the mask and hands were long gone. 



This was my replacement Frankenstein mask a few years later. He was much thinner and not as large or as darkly painted as my original mask. The original mask was much nicer and heavier. I still miss seeing him. My parents finally allowed Frankie to move from the basement couch to my bedroom floor. I rigged up a balloon beating heart for this guy.





Finally, I recently saw this Post Frankie in an episode of Peter Gunn. The poor old guy gets blasted by some “Trick or Treaters”.  The final two photos will take you to the videos from Peter Gunn.  You can see the mask much clearer in the video.

Love those old family photos, Frank! My folks weren't really into picture-taking. I don't think I have one photo of me as a kid dressed up for Halloween.

Now that makes two things to do with a time machine:

1) Kill baby Hitler.
2) Make my parents take Halloween photos.

Thanks so much … Doh! My parents just got a box Polaroid camera at that time. It was a fine tool for monster photos. I also had one of those pocket Kodak Instamatic cameras as a kid.  It shot the 110 film.  Those were sure fun and innocent times.
