« on: March 04, 2023, 02:12:33 PM »
It’s been awhile UMA. Glad to see some familiar faces around here.

I’ve sold some things over the years and then I’ve also bought some as well. Kinda evens out I guess.. I dunno.

Here’s some stuff I have in an old cabinet.

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I’ve always been a fan gumball prizes. When my brother and I were kids - on occasion we went to the local pizza place. Mom would give us some money and I would either play Samurai Showdown, Darkstalkers….or try my luck on a gumball machine. Gumball prizes were kinda different in the 90s though.

Any monster stuff? Don't think I've seen any '90s UM gumball items.

Ohhh yeah! I had UM holographic stickers & trading cards. Stuck/taped them to a trapper keeper that has been long gone now. Wish I had a picture of that thing.

UM themed Pogs, keychains, and candy were in abundance in those machines as well (or at least advertised)

Thinking back on this now….Reminds me that I still have my Michelangelo Frankenstein teenage mutant ninja turtle figure from the 90’s. I always wanted the Leonardo Creature but could never find it at Toys “R” Us.

Oh man, there's lots of mega cool items on those shelves! Red MPC Weird Monsters, Warren fan club memberships, wild vending machine premiums, etc, etc!

I too was all about bubble gum and gumball vending machines as a kid. But I grew up in what passed for the "inner city" in my town of London, Ontario so I was limited to what could be found in corner variety stores, old-fashioned supermarkets of manageable size and the Kresge, Woolworth, Zellers and Metropolitan five-and-dime stores downtown until about 1964-65 when I finished grade school. All those stores had up until then were penny gumball machines with tacky little (though still very cool) silvery or golden charms mixed in with the gumballs. One of the very few nickel machines I remember was a baseball and hockey card vending machine at my local Loblaws supermarket like this one:

I never got out to the suburbs where the K-Mart, Woolco and mega supermarkets that were springing up may have had a more impressive array of vending machines with tempting premiums. Therefore I didn't encounter many nickel and dime vending machines with more worthwhile premiums in the little capsules until I was in high school.

Nonetheless, I'm still all about gumball vending machines to this very day. Here's a Bozo machine from my present day collection:

Is that an original Fritos Mini-Monsters card or is that a repro? And what's in the magazine assortment on the lower shelf?

I’m no expert, but i believe it to be a survivor. Complete with grease stains and some kids markings that probably indicate which ones they wanted or were missing.

I think it's a spoof on the wash detergent Fab, along the same line as the non-sports sets making fun of grocery store products and foods.
