Don Post Wolfman B in his Natural Habitat - 1975

An old photograph featuring my close childhood friends John Sackmann with sisters Paula and Pam at the Universal Studios Tour. John said this photo was taken on a family summer vacation to California in 1975. I thought the Don Post Wolfman B Version looked quite impressive in his natural habitat.

Awesome photo! Sometime in the 70s, I was at a Six Flags and they had some version of a Post Wolfman for sale for the low, low price of $50 bucks!
My mean old father, however, thought that was too much for "a damned Halloween mask!"
*sigh!*

I know exactly what you were dealing with “Doh!”. My dad was the same way. I begged and pleaded with him to buy me the Don Post Karloff Frankenstein mask but to no avail.
There was a place here in the Chicago area with an indoor amusement park along with many different stores called “Old Chicago”. They had a large magic shop inside the mall area that was owned by Marshall Brodein of TV magic cards and “Wizzo the Wizard” fame from the Bozo show. They had just incredible copies of all the Don Post Universal masks. My dad would never let me get them at that time. Those were the most beautiful copies that I have ever seen of the Post Universal masks to this day. They were huge, detailed, and impeccably finished. They were all in big glass cases.
When I did finally score my first high-end Don Post mask it was also at Six Flags Great America in 1975. I was never happy with that mask as it looked like it had already been tried on by 1000 kids or more when I got to him. He was well shop worn. But it was their last copy so I took him home as I knew my dad was in a good mood that day.
They also had beautiful prototypes with eyes in these large display carousels at the Six Flags Magic shop but they were not for sale. My dad finally popped for him as a birthday gift.
Here is a picture of me with him at Six Flags that day (hence my somewhat somber expression) and a picture of him on a stand that I made for him.
The Magic Shop Owned by Marshall Brodein in the later days of the shop... a bit past the prime years -

That is the heart of my monsterkid memories: walkarounds at Universal and DPS masks in magic shops.
"Dad, I really really want that one ... pleeeeeeeeze?" Thanks for this heaping dose of nostalgia, F'455.

Love those old photos. Like a time machine looking back on a fun time long gone.
