What is your favorite Stephen King book or movie?

Mike Scott

Never read any of his books. I suppose my favorite movies are "Carrie" (1976) and "The Shining" (1980).

I really enjoyed "The Stand" and Needful Things". "Creepshow " was an awesome love letter to EC comics, so I guess that would be my favorite.

I've only read one of his short stories, so by default it's Jerusalem's Lot. My favorite movie is Christine.

Other than Fred Gwynne, I didn't care for the 1989 film.

In my opinion (for whatever that's worth) there's only one person who has been able to make really good movies from Stephen King stories, Frank Darabont. The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, even though they aren't "scary" movies are genuinely great cinema. Even Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King himself made only decent movies from King's writings. Granted, The Shining, was visually exceptional and had memorable performances, but it didn't match the humanity of the characters portrayed in The Green Mile and Shawshank. Like I said, that's only my opinion.
