Ape Woman Film Series Question
« on: October 31, 2022, 05:46:15 AM »
The most like answer to my question is maybe.
Read an online article today ranking the various Universal Monster series.  The writer included the Ape Woman series as part of the Universal Monster series.  I have never seen these films.   Captive Wild Woman and the 2 sequels.  I may have heard of them but never considered them part of the main UM series.
How would you rank and place these movies along with our favorites?

They are a part of the Universal monster series, despite having been less famous than Count Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, the Wolf Man, the Invisible Man, the Mummy and the Gill Man. The series while low budget, featured quite a few of the Universal regulars at the time such as John Carradine, Evelyn Ankers, Milburn Stone, J.Carrol Naish, Rondo Hatton, Lloyd Corrigan and Acquanetta.

Paula the Ape Woman might considered part of the second tier of the classic Universal Monsters, along with Rondo Hatton's Creeper and (arguably) Gale Sondergaard's Spider Woman.

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

I'd consider that more like third or fourth tier.
