Lon Chaney Jr. 1964 public appearance footage

"This home movie from El Paso's Stowe family captures scenes of a trip to Western Playland in Ascarate Park in El Paso, where in addition to the normal rides and attractions that day, actor Lon Chaney, Jr. made a special appearance. While the crowd, mostly of children in Halloween costumes, is excited to meet The Wolf Man and get a signed 8x10 glossy, one small child very clearly wants no part of it at all. Chaney was on hand for a Pre-Halloween party October 17-18, 1964 at the amusement park."

And here's Mr. Chaney, arriving in his lim . . er . . stationwagon.

Did the Stowe's have a helicopter?

I remember seeing this video somewhere before. How great for '60s monster kids to be able to meet Lon. Those were the days I was staying up late to watch his movies and would have been thrilled to be there.

Awesome stuff. Thank you so much for sharing that footage. I was watching a Lon Chaney Jr. double feature today!

Wow, what a wonderful bit of media there! Nice to see the kids (minus the little guy) were so happy to see Lon. I know I would have been...20 years later!

I wonder what kind of Frankenstein mask that kid had on?
