MAD DOCTORs on parade
« on: September 20, 2022, 06:05:13 AM »

Post Studios redesigned Universal's "Mad Doctor" mask as a generic character
for the late 1970s, renaming it Mad Scientist >

I scored mine in January '79, their last year in production >

You could expect to pay $39.99 retail for a copy like this,
on sale at Toy World later that same year >

At least two more different styles emerged from DP's mad lab in the early 1980s >

I bought this version in March '81 but have still never seen it catalogued >

Illusive Concepts later released their own series of licensed Universal Monsters,
including a rather unkempt Mad Doctor >

By the time Great CoverUp offered their version in the 1990s, commercial maskmakers
seemed to be drifting further away from the Karloffian look. Moreover, the telltale cheek
wart on this one suggests that it's likely a converted "Abe Lincoln" mask >

'Could swear I caught a fleeting glimpse of one years ago
at Dr Shocker's former House of Horrors >

Get your DOCs in a row and make your final photo submissions
before we move on to Dracula masks next month.

Here is the Father Time  version of the GCU Doc.

Morning, noon, or night, Anytime . . . . the count may strike. If you're caught you have to linger, Cause Dracula may bite your finger!
