It's weird that they keep pushing the 43 Phantom so hard.
It's not a horror movie. The 25 one was.
It just feels like they're so disconnected from their audience.

If you mean Universal, it's because they don't own the copyright of the 1925/9 version. They can't charge a fee to a theater showing the '25. If they put it out on DVD anybody could make copies and sell them.

Yeah, but with that in mind, I still wouldn't push the 43 one. There are other monster movies besides Phantom.

It's that musical.

Yeah, I guess. But like, if people are coming to see the musical, they'll just be disappointed. So that kind of marketing doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe Universal thinks that, because the musical was so popular, people will like this movie, too. (I'm just spit balling, here.)

You can't legally just copy a vhs/dvd/bluray/etc. (or make a digital copy from that source) no matter what your intention is with it. Once a company legally gets a print of a film and puts it on home media, that particular product is their copyrighted material, any duplication is piracy.

Make your copy from a film source, then. The point being, that you would dilute their sales by flooding the market with cheap DVDs.

I went to it. I wasn't disappointed.

As for the choice of films it's because these are the films in the new 4K sets. Last year we got the first box set with Dracula, Frankenstein, Invisible Man and Wolf Man plus theatrical showings. Dracula and Frankenstein made sense for the first double bill leaving Invisible Man and Wolf Man for the other. Now for this year we get Mummy, Bride, Creature and Phantom in a new box set. For the double bills Mummy and Bride being both from the '30s and having Karloff is the natural first pairing leaving Creature and Phantom as the second one.

I wish I could have seen Creature from the Black Lagoon in theaters. I was lucky enough to have seen the original Jaws in 3D. It was amazing!
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!
