AWM busts and bronzes ~ Who collects them?
« on: August 15, 2022, 12:20:26 PM »

AWM used to produce full sized figures for wax museums around the world >

For a time, they also marketed limited edition bronze pieces to collectors >

Not really into bronze art at the time, I just breezed past them on my way through
the factory during visits >

Today I regret not investing in a few. Busts of many classic horror greats were made available.
Wax models were prepared first for later use in the "lost wax" casting process >

Don't ask me how that process works. You'll have to look it up.
It must be very complicated.

During a 1994 visit, Vincent Price's likeness was progressing
through the sculpture stage >

I saw a marvelous caricature of '50s icon James Dean there as well but don't know
if it was ever offered in the series. The sculptor's name was "Clete", surname unknown >

Since I missed my chance at these bronzes, the hope is that some of you showed
more foresight than me. Post pics of your classic horror busts (bronze or otherwise)
and let's watch pop culture cross over into fine art.

I liked the bronze sculpts much better than the wax figures. Esp the Lugosi's.    Did Henry sculpt  all the wax figure stuff?

I believe he had staff working with him and would call in additional sculptors as need arose.
As to their head sculpts, some did look rather ... stylized.

I agree.   Some of the sculpts are pretty out there.    Never seen that Bela before. Different but I like it.

The Bela Dracula with his hypnotic hand pose is seen in some of the Universal DVD/Blu-Ray special features documentaries as a prop.

In 1994, I was merely 24 years old. A newlywed, discussing starting a family. With a poor job. I wouldn't have had the actual scratch to buy any. I was just starting to build my painting skills (which I have used to pay for the collection I have.), so I couldn't have got anything that way yet either.

If they did something like this now, I would be all over that Dracula with hypnotic hand and that Vincent Price.

Providing they had Sideshow style payment plans, lol.

Doh!

I have no Alvarez pieces, but did score a very nice Capt. Quint (resin) a few years ago:

Not a bust, but I got the Silver plated bronze Wolf Man Cane from Alvarez.
