Creature From The Black Lagoon - Refurbished!
« on: September 10, 2022, 09:19:00 PM »
I originally built and painted this model back in 2001. At the time, I was dating someone who I was not into at all, and I just did not put my best into this model - did not like the way it turned out. And it sat on my shelf for 23 years. Currently, I am about to transition from painting with oil-based enamels to water-based acrylics, and felt like this particular model in my collection needed a “rehaul” – and would be a great opportunity to try my skills with acrylic paint. I gave the Creature a good rinse off under the kitchen spigot, let it dry, and started refurbishing it. I have used acrylics over this entire kit, accentuating and amplifying the old paint job from 23 years ago.

This photo here was taken right after I finished the kit 23 years ago:

Here is my newly finished and refurbished version:

Excellent.  Amazing how a great paint job can turn it from looking like a model to looking real.

Nice job man!!
That looks rad!!! Acrylic is so much nicer and easier to work with. That's what i use on my resin kits.
Your washes really make it look great.

Maybe, but acrylics don't have that good old-fashioned monster kid smell.

Love it Dude. Tops Brushin. Transitioning & vibrancy of colours really  8) 8).

I originally built and painted this model back in 2001. At the time, I was dating someone who I was not into at all, and I just did not put my best into this model - did not like the way it turned out. And it sat on my shelf for 23 years.

Yup, know that feelin, some peeps are creative vampyres & suck the spirit out of ye. Still have my own sitting part desprued in his box, & every Samhain I tell myself this is the year I sit down & give Gilly some love. Poor McPhibian still there in his box in bits man :( :(  Utter, utter shame on me  :-[ :-[

Currently, I am about to transition from painting with oil-based enamels to water-based acrylics, and felt like this particular model in my collection needed a “rehaul” – and would be a great opportunity to try my skills with acrylic paint.

I can see the beautiful results you are getting through the new medium, but how are you feelin with them. New medium better than the old, or just different? Drying times working for or against you?
