Hi, here's my Ben Cooper / Collegeville / Halco ect. vintage mask collection. Really didn't realize i had this many till i started taking these pics lol, but i guess there is around 80. One cool thing about these is that they used florescent UV paint so they would be more visible by cars at night, so i took these pics using a UV flashlight to make them glow. I also have the costumes to most of these too, i didn't take pics of them because its a pain to remove them, then fold it up & stuff them back in the box. But if anyone wants to see a costume that goes with a certain mask i can post a pic.   ;D

Oh wow! What a fantastic collection! Those masks look eye-poppingly fabulous.

 8)

Can you post a list identifying each mask by manufacturer and character plus year of issue (if you have any idea) though?

 ???

I can fairly quickly identify these:

A2 - Ben Cooper Ghost
A3 - Ben Cooper Witch
B3 - Ben Cooper Wolfman
B4 - Ben Cooper Spook Town Skeleton
C3 - Ben Cooper Donald Duck
F1 - Collegeville Vampire Girl
F3 - Collegeville Skeleton
G2 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Vampire Girl
G3 - Ben Cooper Witch
I2 - Ben Cooper Devil
J4 - Collegeville Clown
K4 - Collegeville Skeleton
L4 - Ben Cooper Mummy
N4 - Collegeville Casper
O2 - Ben Cooper Spook Town Skeleton
P1 - Ben Cooper Black Cat
Q2 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Mummy
R1 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Frankenstein
S4 - Collegeville Ghost
T3 - Collegeville Jaws

The fact that each company produced so many variants of each kind of mask over the years makes it really difficult to identify many of these masks with absolute certainty. For example mask B1 looks almost exactly like one of the Ben Cooper Frankenstein ones I've seen but your mask has a big bolt right at the hairline which I've not seen on the others.

I wouldn't mind seeing such a list myself since I never could tell which from tother as Hepcat already knows.  ;)

They look like effects in a dark ride with all that day-glo color. Thanks for the great pics, SpinalRemains.
If you take anymore, include one of the A L I E N 's costume from that top row.

(*at*)Hepcat: thanks, i can post the names & maker for most of these, it might take awhile theirs 80 of them lol. the year made is really hard to know, the box & mask usually never say but sometimes the costumes have a copyright year on them

A bit off topic and a rather sad, but it is announced today that the fellow who illustrated so many of the Ben Cooper costumes, Frank Romano, has died.

Spinal Remains, that's a great collection -- and what a clever way to do the photos! Thanks for sharing.

Yay! Thank you!

I can fairly quickly identify these:

A2 - Ben Cooper Ghost
A3 - Ben Cooper Witch
B3 - Ben Cooper Wolfman
B4 - Ben Cooper Spook Town Skeleton
C3 - Ben Cooper Donald Duck
F1 - Collegeville Vampire Girl
F3 - Collegeville Skeleton
G2 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Vampire Girl
G3 - Ben Cooper Witch
I2 - Ben Cooper Devil (Should be Zest Soap although those were made by Ben Cooper.)
J4 - Collegeville Clown
K4 - Collegeville Skeleton
L4 - Ben Cooper Mummy
N4 - Collegeville Casper
O2 - Ben Cooper Spook Town Skeleton
P1 - Ben Cooper Black Cat
Q2 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Mummy
R1 - Collegeville Spooky Spooks Frankenstein
S4 - Collegeville Ghost
T3 - Collegeville Jaws

So I misidentified the masks I've highlighted in red. The skull masks are tough!

Such weird timing: I just read that Ben Cooper book!

The book though is precisely what bumped up these discussions on old Ben Cooper and Collegeville costumes which prompted Spinal Remains to post pictures of his collection!

 ;D

Incidentally, does the book indicate what year Ben Cooper began adding glow-in-the-dark elements to its costumes? I don't remember glow-in-the-dark features in my trick-or-treating years pre-1965.

Row Below: CV Black Cat / BC Gabby the Ghost 1973 / BC Witch 1972 / BC Alien 1979

The skull mask from your Collegeville skeleton costume looks very similar to this Ben Cooper one:

Row Above: BC Black Cat /  CV Witch / Bland Charnas Skeleton / BC Hairy & Scary Witch 1980

And the skull mask from your Bland Charnas skeleton costume looks very similar to this Ben Cooper one:

Sorry, Hepcat, but the book isn't that detailed. The chapters are broken down by genre of costume and don't really go into the minutiae of the pieces.

(*at*)Hepcat: All my info probably isn't 100% accurate, i bought most these costumes used off ebay, so some people probably put the wrong skull mask with the wrong box sometimes, or just threw in any mask they could find. iv also seen some Ben Cooper & Collegeville masks that look nearly identical to each other.
