1st monster model built in almost 10 years - Monarch's Dracula
« on: September 23, 2021, 09:53:11 PM »
It's been long time...

I painted him light flesh color and thought he looked too human, so I added a very light green tint.
I used brass for the eyes.

Very nicely done, with excellent detail.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Didn't Revell produce a Dracula similar to the one shown in the photo?

Sort of back in 2009. Here's a pic from the Scary Monsters magazine website:

Ahhhhh, so the Revell Monsters of the Movies Dracula kit was 1/12 scale and issued in 1999. The Revell Dracula I posted was 1/8 scale and issued in 2009.

Yes.
I do use some acrylic for washes, like on his face, but that's about it. Everything else on this is enamel.
I snagged a bunch of Testors Model Master enamels off of Ebay.

The Revell 1/8 scale Dracula is the old Aurora Dracula.
They gave him a new head sculpt on this release. Not sure why.

The Revell 1/12 scale Dracula was actually going to be part of the early 1970's Monster Scenes, but it was never released in the States. Aurora killed the Monster Scenes series because it upset so many mothers. A Dracula and Mr. Hyde was in the works for that series. They ended up releasing those two models in Canada only, as the Monster Scenes line was dying out.

Here's a great book about the Monster Scenes. Glad I bought it when it was released. Obviously, it's out of print now.
