Delgado'rilla Mania
« on: June 23, 2021, 12:34:35 AM »

Every once in a while somebody scores a Delgado Gorilla mask and all
the other collectors go ape over it!

Don Post Studios had brought in guest sculptor Marcel Delgado to model its fearsome features
in clay for a 1967 Universal movie >

Despite it being the finest Gorilla mask DPS ever made, it never appeared in any DP catalog
from the time of its creation all through the 1970s.

They were available by special order only so I took a chance and ended up scoring an incredible copy
cast from the master mold. These are the first pictures I ever took of it, that long-ago summer of "Jaws", 1975 >

Even "Bruce the Shark" would be envious of choppers like these >

In 1982, the "Custom Gorilla" finally made its debut in DP's catalog >

I promptly purchased two more copies, one of which remains with me to this day, featuring
the original Delgado teeth >

I mentioned "teeth" because they were changed for 1983's version to a more stubby peg-like style >

My oldest one isn't wearable anymore, having turned rock-hard from age, so I stuck eyeballs inside
and keep it around as a display head >

I even have a third copy, custom finished in brown >

You've seen all mine. Now let's see your copies of Don Post's best, biggest, and scariest GORILLA!

The beast to many beauties.....

I had a production "Custom Gorilla" for a time.

to be replaced not  long ago by the real thing.   Ive coveted one of these for quite some time.     Second only to the Hollywood IMO as the all time best Gorilla Monster mask.

Great mask. Wasn't a version of the masked used in the film Trading Places(1983)?

I'd heard that there was. It would be cool to see an image of it.

Thanks for the great reply, Dr Terror, and congratulations on scoring a Delgado'rilla of your own.
You certainly waited long enough and were rewarded with one of the best copies out there.
