Quote from: Doh! on December 07, 2021, 07:22:24 AMThe problem is, the calendar is horizontal so doesn't really emulate the magazine layout. Hence the cropping.

That's insane.  :o What were they thinking?

Quote from: Doh! on December 07, 2021, 07:22:24 AMOh, well, at least I have his book in hardcover:

https://www.amazon.com/Famous-Monster-Movie-Basil-Gogos/dp/1887591710

I have a copy too and I highly recommend it for any Basil Gogos fan!

Quote from: Doh! on December 07, 2021, 07:22:24 AMI don't regret buying it, it's just not quite the collectible I was looking forward to.

You know I just checked out FantaCo Publications' website and the company offers both signed and numbered Gogos' prints:

Basil Gogos' Prints

Plus what appears to be a fabulous new book on Basil Gogos weighing four pounds in hardcover!

Does anyone have this book?

Therefore it's really surprising that FantaCo blundered so badly in designing the calendar.

:-\

It's the 2nd printing. See the bottom of the page for the 1st printing and all of its variants.

I still can't find three things though:

1) The dimensions of the book.
2) The number of pages.
3) How much of the interior consists of full colour reproductions of Gogos' paintings.

From the Monsters in Motion site:

Quote from: Monsters in MotionAn exquisite, super deluxe softcover, full color collection of Basil Gogos' wonderful monster sketches, illustrations and paintings! Over 200 lavish pages of rare art compiled and annotated by Basil's long time life partner, Linda Touby.

This softcover book is like nothing you have ever seen before. We will show you the careful steps Basil took to prepare his famous paintings. The art comes from Basil's private studio files and almost nothing has been seen before.

So, no FM, or other monster mag covers?

The book does include some of Gogos' best known paintings including the one of the Creature that was used for a Post cereal premium but I can't say whether any at all were used on magazine covers:

Basil Gogos Book - Monsters in Motion

This previous book though contains almost all of the paintings Gogos did for Famous Monsters of Filmland covers:

All of those APC posters/puzzles were also used on FM covers. That Price/Madhouse art was on FM #109 and that Ingred Pitt vampire was on a Monsterscene cover.

I have the Kerry Gammill book.

Doh!

OK, another major flaw with the calendar I just noticed: February started on the wrong day of the week!! It shows the 1st being a Wednesday instead of Tuesday (as in reality). Luckily, I didn't rely on it to plan a vacation or something...

The rest of the calendar is fine but c'mon! You had one job, man...!
