Fantastic serials of the Classic era
« on: November 08, 2020, 12:58:29 PM »
Is anyone else here a fan of the multi-chapter serials from the '30's-'50's? There were certainly some great storylines, casts and features to be had in a lot of them. I realize that these days they must be a rare taste for many horror/fantasy fans, however, there are more than a few that are worth discovering and several even feature familiar faces from the horror films of that era.

A few favorites of mine:

THE PHANTOM CREEPS(1939)

With Bela Lugosi as the mad scientist with the killer robot, you cant go wrong with this one!

THE MYSTERIOUS DR.SATAN(1940)

With Edward Cianelli as the title fiend and Robert Wilcox as the masked adventurer known as the Copperhead!

Anyone want to share a favorite or two of theirs?

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

Daredevils of the Red Circle is a favorite of mine. It reminds me of a 30’s version of The Challengers of the Unknown.

All of these mentioned are wonderful!

A few more:

MANHUNT OF MYSTERY ISLAND(1945)

A criminal uses atomic energy to give himself the aspect of a long-dead pirate ancestor to pull off his crimes

THE CRIMSON GHOST(1946)

One of most famous serials of the era, made more so by the band, the Misfits, using the title fiend's aspect for their albums..also known as CYCLOTRODE X

THE MONSTER AND THE APE(1945)

Another serial made more fantastic by the wild elements involved in the storyline, in this case: the trained gorilla and the robotic Metallogen Man!

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."
