It's FALL!
« on: September 22, 2020, 03:38:12 PM »
Call it Fall or call it Autumn, it's here!  My favorite time of year when all the fun stuff happens.  We get Halloween, Thanksgiving, and almost all the anticipatory days of mysterious wrapped presents under the Christmas tree.

A comfortable snap returns to the night air (here in Southern California) and select trees go from the bland sameness of green to yellows, golds and crimsons - before sending leaves spiraling to the ground to make a crunchy carpet for kids home from school (normally).

I always look forward to the days of tree's dark, skeletal hands reaching up into a grey sky and cawing crows dotting them like some kind of sinister ornaments.

I  LOVE  FALL !

It's truly the most colorful season of the year. Happy first day of Autumn!

FALL! As dusk hits, it's a time of magic.

Years ago, I would take the 4:38 PM train out of Penn Station to go to Freeport/Merrick on the Babylon branch.  I would leave my office and enter Penn Station in the sunshine (most of the time) and when the train got out of the tunnel, dusk was spreading her golden glow. The Woodside staton and surrounding area turned from slightly shabby to magical.

Nothing within the States beats the northeastern part of the country from Maine to West Virginia to Minnesota for fall foliage. Take Maine for example:

'Heaven on earth. I took a fall foliage tour once myself and experienced all the splendor in those images.

Many of the trees in my area are evergreens.  But, outside my front window I have a tall Sweet Gum tree with maple-like leaves.   They have turned colors and are falling right in front of my window pane, making the ground all crunchy when I step outside my front door.

At 5:30 AM it was 42 degrees this morning.  (I will now pause while those of you back east say, "Oooh!".   But that counts as pretty cold here in my little sea-adjacent town between L.A. and San Diego.

Feeling all Fall-y today.

. . outside my front window I have a tall Sweet Gum tree . .

It must be great to live in CA, where you can just go out in your back yard and pick an orange off your orange tree, or a piece of gum off your gum tree!

At 5:30 AM it was 42 degrees this morning.

It's supposed to be 80, here (in Ohio), today.

I planted an Apricot tree outside my kitchen window.  We always had fruit trees when I was a kid and I wanted to watch the whole blooming, setting fruit, sprouting new leaves, going bald cycle in my backyard, too.

Besides, I like apricots and they are expensive in the stores.
