The other night (actually about 3 am), I was just winding down from some ebay window shopping.  One of the last auctions I looked at were some GODZILLA posters.  Anyway,  a few hours later, that big ol' lizard was the star in a dream I had.  It was very vivid, realistic, dark & foreboding.  I woke up, exhilarated.  It was like actually being there.  It was pretty damn cool.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone here has ever had dreams involving the Universal Monsters or movie monsters in general.  I remember one I had when I was probably around 10 years old (40+ years ago).  I was in a huge castle, and every so often I would catch creepy goings-on out of the corner of my eye.  Eventually, Frank, Drac, Wolf Man and a horde of other famous monsters surrounded me, then showed themselves to be my friends.  An awesomely cool dream for a ten year old monster kid.

The Creature showed up one night about 10 years ago.  He was cool and didn't try to rip me apart or anything.  I've probably had 10-12 dreams (that I can recall, in detail) with monsters as the main focus.  Most were just exhilarating (there's that word again) and not overly terrifying, just very cool.  However, several years ago, I had a dream that very nearly turned into a nightmare (right before I snapped awake!).  I was in an old abandoned warehouse, hiding from none other than the Wolf Man!  I was observing him from a distance when, suddenly, he turns and looks me right in the eyes, then begins charging toward me, shieking & roaring.

I'll quit dragging this out now, but I will say, these dreams sure were a new & unique way to experience the monsters we've known and loved.  Anybody else out there identify with this??  Or am I really some kind of "monster stalker", which is what my lovely wife thinks!

Pleasant dreams!

I've had several Zombie dreams over the years.  They chase me or I'm hiding, but they are slow so I never get caught.  They've always appeared in groups.  I've had one dream of the demon Regan from the Exorcist, and one of Jason.  I've had several dreams involving Vampirella.  ;D  The most common reacurring dreams for me, is that I can fly.  As far as monsters, mostly I've had Zombies chasing type dreams. Oh yeah, and there was one where a dark shapeless-shadowy feeling of evil was after me, I woke up sweating when it caught me.  I accually love having nightmares when I can remember them.  And of course the Vampirella dreams.

Man, I just remembered a nightmare I had a couple weeks after I had seen THE EXORCIST in '73.  I was in a, let's just say, a compromising position, with a young lady (no, not THAT young!), when suddenly, her face transformed into Regan's, complete with bulging white eyes and blackened snake tongue!!  DAMN!

;D So I guess you were french kissing the...DEVIL ...out of her?  ;D  Seriously, that is a pretty cool dream, freaky but cool.  Mine had the rolling white eyes, but you got a lot closer to Regan than I ever want to get.  This is a great idea for a thread Unknown Primate, hope a lot of members post so we can see how the subconscience of the UMA looks like.  Guess it's only natural when you live and breath monsters, that you dream about them too.

All the time. Usually not the Universal monsters tho they have been in them. Demons, werewolves alien beings of all sorts ,zombies , shapeshifters ,vampires ,evil clowns ghosts ,shadow people etc. . At least once or twice a week. Sometimes they are the whole dream and sometimes just a quick weird thing tossed in.

I had one years ago when I went into the warehouse I work in. I was late and it was a sunny day. Even tho we have skylights it was dismal in there with a low fog. I heard some growling and noises that kind of echoed then some screams. There were several 7' tall demon like creatures of various forms attacking my coworkers. One guy was picked up and slammed face down between 2 pallets of product snapping him in two backwards. Another thing was rocking a forklift trying to shake the guy off. All I remember besides that is grabbing a 14.4 V sawzall and running like hell.

In another dream which was very quick I walked up to the office to talk to the head of sales who was kind of a jag.
I told him something about an order he did not like. He grabbed his desk and started convulsing. I watched as he morphed into a cenobite. As he got up and was going to tear me up I suddenly had a 45 in my hand and proceeded to empty the clip.

If there was a machine that could transfer my dreams onto film then I would be a top rated horror movie mogul.
Seriously!

When I was a kid, I had dreams about much of the same. There was a bookstore that my mind conjured up, that made recurring appearances in my dreams. It was called, "The Occult Pyramid", of all things, and I would always go there to read up on how to stop whatever particular monster that had been unleashed. Nowadays, almost all of my scary dreams are about ghosts, zombies and natural disasters. I also have the occasional Coffin Joe dreams, but I wouldn't exactly call them scary. Just incredibly weird.

Yeah, I'm just glad it didn't affect my "relationship" with women in general, LOL!  Worrying about a girlfriend throwing up green pea soup, could possibly put a damper on certain situations (although I have had experiences with orange screwdrivers - maybe I just made them sick!).

Went through about a 10 year phase of "devil" nightmares, where I would have to confront Satan & his hordes of demons.  My own inner demons, maybe?  The really creepy, disturbing dreams usually involve ghosts or real life horrors.  I've also had several about aliens coming down and enslaving humans.

I have a few drawings I've done based on some of the more memorable "monster" dreams I've had.  Some are strange creatures born out of my own warped mind, and I'm thinking, what the hell made me dream that up?!

Anyway, glad to see so many chirp in with their dream experiences.  Wasn't FRANKENSTEIN inspired by a dream Mary Shelley had, as was Robert Louis Stevenson's DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE?

Thanks for the responses, gang.  And Nicole, how do you recuperate from a COFFIN JOE dream?!

I remember a dream where I find myself at a yard sale and I come across all these old 60's model kits. Monster kits. Hot rod kits. All of the boxes are open with kits half-built and partially painted and, as far as I can tell, missing pieces. The thing is I've never seen these kits before anywhere. These look to be prototypes or some lost cache of long forgotten model kits. I specifically remember looking at the pieces of an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth motorcycle kit in avocado green plastic thinking this is my lucky day. Then the alarm rang.

That's cool!  Until you're rudely interrupted by the alarm, of course.  I had a dream just a year ago, where I was in some department store which was going out of business and was going to be torn down.  Yeah, they had an aisle full of awesome monster kits, most that were from my imagination...  and they were GIVING THEM AWAY - first come, first served!  There was even a large kit featuring that two-headed cyclops from the 1968 FMoF Fearbook!  I don't own that issue, but it must'ave been somewhere in my subconsciousness.  They HAVEN'T made a kit of that, have they?

Oh yeah, Bring it ON!

As promised here are a couple of pictures I drew from some of my dreams.

A year and a half ago this creature appeared in a dream. He was about 200 feet tall, reminds me of a cross between Gorgo and a gigantic Creature from the Black Lagoon.

This giant monstrosity was in a dream I had several years ago. In the dream, he was in a movie, comic books, and even a giant toy playset. It was very realistic and I've been thinking about making my own comic based on him. He doesn't have a name (yet), but now that I think about it, he looks kinda like the Toho Frankenstein/Gargantua.

Not exactly a monster, but this cute-looking little primate popped up in a dream and he too starred in a movie, was a toy, and stuffed animal. Basically, a mass-marketed family-friendly icon. Maybe I should try to market him!

Oh yeah. Lost count of the number of dreams where I've found collector nirvana and then ....

So disappointing !!

Wolf Man

As a kid I always dreamed of Frankenstein chasing after me like in the end scene of Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.  I have had several dreams of being in a castle, usually Dracula or some random vampire's and loosing whoever I was dating at the time and having to search for her with the vampire coming and time running out.  Not sure what weird Freudian meaning that has.  The worst, meaning actually the scariest is that the real Satan is actually in my room and I am trying to get out of bed to fight him but am frozen and can't move.  My eyes are open and there is a pressence in the room and a low red glow in the corner.  I keep trying to move so I can fight but then he dissapears and I wake up for real to see an empty room.  I can never be certain if he was really there or not.  It is not like normal dreams where I wake up and know it was a dream.

I also have night terrors usually about someone close that is in danger and I am always trying to save them.  Usually the killer is right behind them and I am yelling for them to turn around but I just can't seem to get to them in time.  This is probably related to the Fire Department, trying to save those you just can't reach.

I once had a dream there was a girl behind a door in a vampires castle, he was almost on us and I was trying to bash the door down, well, I actually knocked down a wall partition on top of the Firefighter in the next room, he had just moved his feet as the wall landed on the lower section of his bed.

One of my night terrors was about the guy I shared a room with at the Fire Station, he had a killer with a knife right behind him and I was screaming at him to turn around and running to try and get to him.  Apparently I was really screaming something in my sleep because it woke him up and this big muscular guy was pulling the sheets up to his head and scared.  I also knocked over the lamp on that one too.

In the bunk rooms there is often no light at all so the dreams take on an altered state of consciousness feel, almost hallucinagenic quality.

Why can't I dream about the Swedish Bikini Team?
