^I feel on nearly every show they underappraise the value of the collections. I'm not sure why. You think they would want to inflate them to make the overal show more impressive.

The show was back from hiatus last night with a fun episode of great monsterkid interest,
recorded at the "Icons of Darkness" exhibit in Hollywood.

http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=35529.0

Its owner/curator discussed his long career in show business and the occasion on which he acquired his first collectible.

There were generous homages to monsterkid influencers Stan Winston and Forrest J Ackerman.
I didn't see much in the way of Universal Monsters, but for a closeup of one of his Mike Hill figures >

The featured items typically appraised for double-plus their original purchase price >

Appraiser brought along a miniature diorama of the Ackermansion in trade for a few props >

The deal was declined on account of it not being screen-used.

I caught it just as it was beginning. I was happy to see that they didn't "low-ball" this collection's overall worth, as they so often do. Also, I wished they would have highlighted in more detail some of the Universal Monsters figures in the background!

I'm pretty sure his "original" Alien costume isn't.   Bob Burns had (has) the heads, and, being made of latex, are rotting away.  So any costume would likely be in poor condition today.  This costume looks pristine like it was just made.

Last Sunday's show featured a couple of "pop culture collectors" who had
more than a little monster memorabilia throughout their home >

Among the items appraised >

The appraiser offered two "PeeWee Herman" figures in trade but the collectors already had one ... how could they not?

...her limited edition Dark Forest Barbie.

(However, to be fair, you would have to pay me to take any of those Funko POP figures).

But are you drooling over her Dark Forest Barbie?

"Lowball"? I think they most often highball. How much do you think Rich Correll actually paid for those items appraised at $75,000-$175,000? And did those "appraisals" come with a certified cheque attached?

Awesome Monster collection.  That Kenner Alien is worth more than 500.00 loose.

I do agree with you that the “experts” do tend to highball the main, primo items that they showcase on the show. Some, like the TV show costumes and memorabilia, were way, WAY overvalued, IMHO. When I said “lowballing”, I was referring to their appraisals of the overall collections; or, more specifically, the remainder of those collections. For instance, say that they end up valuing the 8 items (give or take) that they showcase on the program for between $80-100K; when they are asked to put a value on the owner’s entire collection, they often seem to come with some strange figure like $150,000; even though the house seems to be bursting at the seam with tons more collectibles. It’s like 1% of the collection is worth 90% of its value!

I’m still sticking with my original theory that Funko Pops are dragging down the entire collection’s worth!   :) :) :)

Haha!! Brick took a "Pop Shot".
I totally get why people like Funko Pops, but i made a vow that i will never go down that rabbit hole.
Although, i almost broke that vow when i saw the Black Phillip Pop from the VVitch.

Fortunately, for me, it was a shallow hole.  ;D
