Addams Family connection to Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I recently learned that Bullwinkle's primary foes, were based on the Characters of Charles Addams that appeared in the New Yorker. Natasha Fatale was based on the character named Morticia in the TV series, and Boris Badenov was inspired by the character called Gomez in the TV series (Neither of the characters would be named, until the TV series debuted.) Boris was a short stout maniac with a pencil mustache, and the inspiration becomes clear when pointed out, and I think Natasha being inspired by the Charles Addams Family matriarch is also clear. Hayward and Burns, were writers for Jay Ward, and they were writers for "The Bullwinkle Show". They provided the format of the Munsters to Universal, and had planned for the mother in their series to be a vampire, patterned a bit on Morticia. Their plans were to have the series with more of the humor of Charles Addams. This changed, when Universal went in a different direction, and put their Monster family series in the hands of the creative team behind "Leave it to Beaver". When Hayward and Burns went to see the pilot being filmed, they found the shooting script had been completely different from what they proposed. If you have seen an early pilot, a common comment is how much the mother (Phoebe) seems more like Morticia, then the character in a later Munsters pilot called Lily. Well I think that is probably the reason. Perhaps it was for the best that Universal went in a different direction, as it gave us two very different series that I enjoy.

I like Rocky & Bullwinkle so much that I've gathered up a number of items featuring characters from their cartoon show for my collection!
First my Kenner Presto Sparkle Paint set:
And here is a Sewing Card set that was offered as a mail order cereal premium:
Here are the Pepsi glasses I have portraying some of the characters from the show:
Here are a couple of pictures of some of the sixty coins of my Old London Rocky & Bullwinkle set from 1964:
Old London Potato Chips were sold in Pennsylvania and in other adjacent northeastern States.

I just got a rush of deja vu: I
totally
remember having one of those Sparkle Paint kits as a kid -- might even have been Bullwinkle, too!

Here are scans of my comics featuring Rocky and Bullwinkle. First the Dells headlining Rocky:
Here now are two Dell comics in which Bullwinkle gets top billing:
And here are three Gold Keys:
