NECA Universal Monster Headknockers
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:05:29 AM »
I'm thinking about picking up a few of these headknockers from NECA (  I picked up the Creature from the Black Lagoon at my local comic shop and checked out the others online.  I usually am not interested in "caricature" type renditions of our beloved Universal monsters, but these seem to be of good quality and don't have a real "cartoonish" look to them.

I like the Creature, Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Wolfman and Dracula (Drac is sold out).  The Mummy, however, is not the Boris Karloff version; it's The Mummy's Tomb version.  I wonder why they did that...

Anyway, I'll probably buy all of these, but I wanted to get your opinions on the caricatures, quality, etc.  Do any of you own any of these and, if so, what do you think of them?

We LOVE them here! The bride and frankenstein ones even have bases that slide together as well.

WE liked them so much, that we started picking up the others they have done as well.. Gremlins stripe is excellent, Beetlejuice is killer, and the Alien one is amazing.

Also on our list is the Exorcist one.. it seems funny that something that was considered horrific 20 years ago is the subject of humor now.

Only one I thought was mildy disappointing so far was the Gremlins Gizmo one.. he was very large compared with stripe, and the one we got didn't have the best paint application.

I really think these are some of the unsung "heroes" of this timeframe release wise, and think collectors will hunt them down years from now, kind of like the telco motionettes.
