COVID or no COVID, I'd still be wearing that mask in public just for the coolness factor, Brick!  Nice job!

I've been wearing my Lon Chaney facemask.

So I decided to gear up and go exploring recently. Just to see what life is like outside of my home and the grocery stores these days. I went to some old haunts. 3 comic stores, a flea market, a Halloween novelty store,  and a toy shop. The Halloween and novelty shop (pre-covid) was always packed. I mean, elbow to elbow packed. The place is called Foy's in Fairborn, Ohio. Of the comic stores, I was the sole person in 2 of the 3 besides the cashier. I was one of 4 people in the toy store, and the SOLE PERSON in Foy's. Something unheard of before corona. As I walked out of Foy's....the streets of downtown Fairborn were empty. Besides me and some fella I suspect was homeless....it was empty. There were about a dozen cars parked in retail areas, but they weren't in the stores I was in... for the most part. I think we have destroyed ourselves with our reaction to this virus. Everyone seems to be in permanent "stay home" mode now. It's almost as if humans have just decided to go.... nowhere now. I have known about a dozen people who have had covid. Only one has died, but he also was a cancer survivor, and had the beginnings of dementia. He was 83. The rest recovered.  I am unsure what exactly the long term effects of human behavior is going to be when this is all over. If its ever all over. Just an observation. No politics implied or intended. Its just a commentary on....fear, maybe? I think the change is more strange... to me, anyway... than the actual virus.

Glad people are staying home by you, because people are out in force over here.  They need to stay the h*** home.  Stay the h*** home.  Don't have family gatherings, which are, by far, the worst spreading events, and keep your kids in the house, because they are the worst spreaders due to their immense social interactions and lack of masks.  Just stay the h*** home and keep your kids away from friends.  Create social bubbles.  You can go to the store, go shopping like you did, but wear a mask, and not go out if you are sneezing or coughing.  If everyone did this, we'd have this under control.

I don't go out any more.  I can order anything I want delivered to my door.

Don't really mind it much for me.  But I know some working folks who are having a hard time - with two kids they have to supervise online home-schooling for now.

Mostly, I miss baby-sitting the two girls for about 3 hours, 3 times a week.  Really miss the little one's enthusiastic hugs.

I wish this would all pass.  The virus, the elections, the demonstrations...   I could use some good news for  for a change.

Rover Perseverance is on it's way to Mars.  That successful take-off made me smile.

What's cool about this one, instead of sending the usual little car, this time they sent a flying drone! Ought to get some awesome pictures!!  :)

Should give us some of those beautiful drone overheads like we have loved here on earth.  I hope they can send back movies and not just still.  For the first time, they will be sending us sounds from Mars, the wind, the whining motors of the rover, the crunch of the wheels on the dry soil...

Best of all, Perseverance will be selecting and collecting samples for a future un-manned mission to pick up and return home.  First time for material from another planet.

I wish I could have lived to see a human walking on Mars.  Their return would be cause for the biggest "ticker tape" parade New York has ever seen - enough kindling to burn down the whole damned city.

I live in California, but I would have tossed all my shredded paper out my window and screamed right along with them.

Just going by my age and the Mars flight windows Nasa and others are using.

I won't be here.

I wish I could freeze myself for 1,000 years, just to see what everything will look/be like, then!  :)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that they expect some 44,000 more deaths in the U.S. during the month of August - bringing the total to about 200,000.  So much for the hot weather abatement theory.

Meanwhile, California is having wildfires (suspected arson, or course) in the southern half.

The east coast is beginning what promises to be a robust tropical storm/hurricane season.

We need some major positive/fun distractions to replace going to sporting events, concerts beaches, national parks, schools and jobs.

Any ideas?
