Revell Flash Gordon!

Revell released this very cool Flash Gordon model kit in 1965:

Here are a couple of pictures of rkoenn's terrific build:

Wow, that is a really cool piece.  I had no idea this existed.  Now I gotta set my searches for one.

The above Ebay listing is somewhat misleading though because of the misuse of the word "Vintage". The 1965 Revell kit is vintage. The listing is for the Atlantis re-pop of the kit from 2015 which conforms to only a scoundrel's definition of "vintage".

 >:(

If however you only want the kit to build, the Atlantis re-pop is fine.

I guess I was fooled by it, but I thought it seemed awfully cheap.

Yes, I hate when people use misleading key words like "vintage" or "rare".  Ebay is good for having misleading posts too.  I've been burnt a few times for not reading a post careful enough.

I bought that kit just 4 or so years ago and just checked and apparently it is very difficult to find these days.  I added the base from Red Planet, I believe, which is much better than the dinky little plastic one that came with it.  It apparently was a re-pop of a Revell kit I never knew about previously.  A simple kit but a good subject.

I figured that was the original base. It fits the box art, perfectly!  :)

That wasn't the original base, it was a small base with the standing figure.  This base included the figure in the crater as well as being much larger and including the octopus monster.  I don't think it is available any longer but am not sure.  I know I got it from Cult TV Man and believe it was cast by Red Planet.
