Twilight Zone - Nothing in the Dark
« on: January 02, 2020, 01:06:29 AM »
I have never seen the episode "Nothing in the Dark" before.  It is episode #81 and was filmed during season two, but held over for season three, episode #16.  A woman afraid of death keeps herself inside and hasn't gone out for years because she is afraid of death.  I won't spoil the episode for those who haven't seen it, but I really enjoyed this tale.  It had a very charming end and one to, of course, make you think a bit.

Have you seen this episode?  What did you think?
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity...

Seen it many times and I think it's one of my favorite episodes! George Clayton Johnson was one of the best TZ writers and this episode has some wonderful dialog. Veteran Gladys Cooper is excellent in the first of her 3 TZ episodes, as is Robert Redford in an early part.

Great episode! Here's a nice little interview with director Lamont Johnson talking about it:

I'm not ashamed to admit it, I've teared up at the end of the episode on more than one occasion.

Thanks for the video.  And I'm not ashamed to say I had a lump in my throat at the end.

My favorite bit of dialog: (There's one word I can't make out.)

Redford: "You see! No shock. No engulfment. No . . tearing asunder. What you feared would come like an explosion, is like a whisper. What you thought was the end, (is?) the beginning!"

The line: "What you thought was the end? The beginning!"

Seems an odd way to put it. The camera cuts away from Redford at the crucial moment, so I can't read his lips.  ;D
