Holiday Gifting Help Wanted - Harry Potter Movies
« on: November 27, 2019, 12:18:49 AM »

I have an 11-year-old on my festive gift list over the winter solstice season celebrations.  *

She is completely in love with the Harry Potter series of books and movies.  The book set seems a pretty easy choice - a hardbound set of the complete Rawlings writings.

But what about the movie sets?  Which edition gives the best DVD collection - and which set gives the best Blu-Ray collection?  Is there a big difference between the two versions?

Thanks.

*  I won't say that "C" word because certain people insist that everyone should.

What does "best" mean?

The one with the worst picture and really crappy sound, I guess.

You coulda meant best price, for all I knew.

Is there such a thing with newer movies? Aren't all DVD going to look the same and the same for BD? It's not like trying to find the best copy of some old PD movie.

Well, anything that has had several editions winds up having some sets with problems - lousy holder designs, faulty discs, scrimpy extras (or extras that are dropped from later re-issues), etc.

Sometimes even buying individual movies makes more sense than buying complete sets in a single case holder.  I do find 'steel book" editions useless.

Price is not a consideration.  It's a gift.
