The description definitely sounds like it will be a loose adaptation. Which, in my opinion, begs the question of "Why try to tie it to the classic Universal Monsters at all, then?"

Because Universal owns the rights and wants to make money.

I think it looks fine, its a good way to make the IM scary to a modern audience.  But judging from the trailer the look of the movie lacks any style to make it stand out. Imagine if someone like Del Toro took this same story and directed it?

So, Universal is turning "The Invisible Man" into a Lifetime Network revenge fantasy made-for-TV flick? That was their brilliant new take on it?

Yeah, I'll just go watch "Hollow Man" again . . . .

"The image of the Invisible Man in the floating trench coat and the floating sunglasses is one that is clearly etched into the public consciousness," says the filmmaker who wrote the original Saw and wrote and directed last year's Upgrade. "I wanted to kind of get away from that  . . ."

Also a good choice! But I was thinking about a decent updating on the classic Wells tale, as opposed to the original version.

I'll probably skip this. Looks like it has more in common with Hollow Man than the Invisible Man. I'm all for updating characters and stories, but if it has pretty much no connection to the original work, what's the point? The guy being invisible looks like it's the only thing this movie is going to have in common with the classic movie. I don't know...I feel like making new movies about these characters shouldn't be that complicated.

Monsters For Sale

Trailer looks interesting to me - not classic, but interesting.

A comedian (don't remember who) said that if he was invisible, he would find a mime and kick the crap out of him - to the crowd's exclamations of, "Wow, this guy is really good; I'd swear he was actually bleeding."

I predict it will play before invisible audiences.
