Red baseball caps? I had to look up the reference:...

… Baseball caps should only be worn by baseball players and farmers, and by the latter category only if they're emblazed with the Shur-Gain or International Harvester logos.

I  had no idea it was a thing.  I was just trying to slip an unauthorized political dig under the wire.  I never join in mindless chants or mob mentality.  It stifles rational thinking.

(Besides, most middle-age men who still wear baseball caps think it makes them look youthful and vigorous - usually by hiding their growing bald patch.)

…  "We welcome everyone," said Manfred. "So anything that looks like a MAGA hat is not welcome." …

That sounds awfully contradictory.  Extremism often is.  I don't like the hats, but the kid would still get candy at my house.  We'll never reunite the country by shunning and ostracizing those with whom we disagree.

Party politics aside...

I hate to see the school kids deprived of carving pumpkins, decorating the auditorium and dressing up in funny costumes for a school dance.

This promotes evil thinking how?

Living in a mostly Hispanic suburb of of L.A., red caps are not an issue (nor "brown shirts", for that matter). I think we'll see a lot of clowns and Jokers this year.

A professional teacher in our family blames it on four things: religious objections, financially strapped families, safety issues, and litigious parents. None of this makes much sense
to me either but Halloween has faced such trials all throughout its history and is thankfully still with us.

Well, while I don't condone suicide, or telling people to go do obscene things to themselves (lol), I do agree that the problem is people are grossly miserable, hate life, don't believe in the existence of anything higher than themselves, and do indeed wish to drag everyone down with them.  You nailed it. Some of the very voices crying "haters" at others...are actually quite hateful.
Maybe I went too far with the "jump off a building" wish. How 'bout they go play in traffic instead?

HP Lovecraft said a society can take some liberalization but only so much.
Hoo boy are we seeing that these days.

"the way America's public schools are sliding, they'll all be like this in a matter of months. I say enjoy it — it's a hell of a toboggan ride!" "

I love Lovecraft's stories and universe as much as the next horror fan, but, i'm not sure he's the best lad to quote.

“[Hitler’s] vision . . . is romantic and immature,” he stated after Hitler became chancellor of Germany. “I know he’s a clown but god I like the boy!”

Some people are so afraid of giving "offence" to anyone (no matter how silly) that they're willing to use the heavy hand of government to mandate acceptable behaviour/attitudes for everybody.

 >:(

Me I'm for letting us each decide for ourselves as individuals.

He isn't bad to quote unless there is a litmus test for political perfection in which case others,  Einstein for example, would have to be a no-go for quotes too since he advocated the creation of mass murdering weapons.
Vincent Price also was said to have favored Hitler after he toured Europe in the early 30s according to his daughter.
Price was great to quote also. He urged an audience in London England in 1970 to keep the city from becoming dangerous to walk through like some large American cities had become by then. Now, it would probably be considered fascist (the Dalai Lama was also called a fascist recently).

Yeah.

And kids are being denied Halloween fun at school, too.

The few times someone wished me a "Happy festivus" or Kwaanzaa (a holiday invented by an FBI stooge black radical) I tell them to go to hell to their face. I won't tolerate this insanity, nor will I be polite or nice about it. I'm pretty unpleasant and intolerant of nonsense, more so the older I get.

Did someone not get wished "Happy National Grouch Day" on October the 15th?

(An inexplicable oversight.)

Don't quit your day job to be a comedian. I simply refuse to bow down to the communistic thought police and their insane word games that emasculates and warps our language. It's Christmas, not festivus or winter festival. I won't participate in that insanity and I call out those who do. It's that simple.

It's Winter Solstice - and phooey to all the "My invisible friend in the sky can beat up your invisible friend in the sky." lunatics who try to usurp it for their preferred brand of insanity.

The article gives four excuses for why these school events are being cancelled (listed in the order they are introduced in the article):

(1) Personal reasons
(2) Religious reasons
(3) Student family financial reasons
(4) "Cultural Appropriation"

Reason 1 and 3 aren't legit arguments for not having a Halloween celebration at school. I'll dismiss "personal reasons" offhand because of it's generality. As to financial reasons you can come up with an insanely cheap or no cost costume without issue. I have never paid any money at all for any costume I have had as an adult. I've thrown stuff together. The article (and the school districts) attempt to lay the main cause as religious concerns. That is a complete and total cop out. They only cite a single individual in the article who actually has a religious objection and she also doesn't let her kids celebrate Christmas, Easter or Valentine’s Day.

My family and I attend church every Sunday. I've probably only missed 5 or 6 Sundays in the past 30 years because I was ill those weeks. My son is dressing up as the Invisible man this year. My daughter is dressing up as the Bride of Frankenstein. My son has the Ed Repka prints of the Creature of the Black Lagoon and Mummy hanging in his room during the month of October. My daughter was miffed by that so I hung up the Bride and Frankenstein prints in her room. There is a skeleton sitting at my kitchen table and a skull on my mantle among many other Halloween decorations in and outside my home.  I have Wolf Man and Creature from the Black Lagoon action figures sitting on a small jack o lantern on the credenza behind my desk at work right now. My wife is in charge of the my kids school Halloween parties tomorrow. We celebrate Halloween in my house like it's nobody's business. I know a lot of religious people from various religions (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist). In my entire life, I have only met 1 single family who did not celebrate Halloween (and they didn't celebrate ANY holidays including birthdays and New Years). The rest celebrate it from passively to emphatically (with the strong majority being emphatic). I simply do not buy the religious argument given by schools. Maybe for less than 1% of religious people, but as I stated, it's a total cop out by the school districts to distract from the actual reason they are cancelling this stuff.

The real reason most schools or school districts are cancelling Halloween celebrations is "Cultural Appropriation". It is a big concern for schools because they don't want to get negative attention because a teacher or student dressed up as something that anyone else might go out of their way to find offensive. You better be VERY careful if your 5 year old daughter wants to dress up as a Disney princess because if she isn't Polynesian she can't be Moana. If she isn't Native American she can't be Pocahontas. If she isn't Asian she can't be Mulan and so on and so forth.

I fully acknowledge and agree that there are many types of costumes that reasonable people would rightfully find offensive if worn. I'm not going to name specific costumes but I think we can all reasonably agree that there are some of those (I personally don't think dressing up as a former or current President of the United States from either political party falls into the overly offensive category). The problem is we've allowed the fringe to set the standard for the rest of society to the point that lunacy carries the day. We are at a point where in many places in this country you must dress up as a character that exactly matches your own genealogical and cultural profile. That is crazy and completely defeats the point of Halloween.
