'Movie mold castings of both CREATURE masks from the 1954 original!
I snapped these photos in 1983 but the masks remain in my collection today
and still look exactly as pictured.

Here's an old DP HUNCHBACK mask that's been in my collection for ages.
It's got the best finish of all the others I've ever owned. It was still wearable then
but has since been foam-filled with a glass eye inserted >

One day I dummied up a Calendar-style portrait, just to see how closely it could
match the vibe of that 1966 original >

Doh!

The magic shops at Disneyland always stocked MAD DOCTOR masks in the 1970s >

I got my first copy from there in August 1971 >

Between masquerading and my amateur monster movies, the ol' Doc took a lot of abuse.
I snapped one final shot of it in 1980 as it was starting to collapse >

Nowadays I take much better care of my masks. This one is currently my favorite, still wearable
in the picture below but I prefer to display it with eye inserts. They really bring a mask to life!

I might never hear of scary cool masks like this without your fun reviews, jupiter2.
They often leave me trying to imagine some backstory into the characters: what evil deeds
they've committed, the dark worlds they inhabit, and especially who I would like to scare
with their help!  >:D

Glad you're reviewing again, Jupiter! And what an obscure pun to name that mask:

Funny that you should mention that. I didn't think of it until after I completed filming, and wondered if I was the only one who didn't realize it! I would have referenced it in the video, if I had noticed sooner. It does fit in with the Zagone/Be Something fondness of pun-naming some of their masks.

I scored my first edition copy of NOCTURNAL in September 1982.
Below, the mask as it debuted in Distortions Unlimited's catalogue and a couple of
production samples photographed at the facility. Those were the days when using
actual yak hair on masks was still practical. It's become too expensive now.

I’ve always really liked Nocturnal. Do you still have your copy?

I should. There aren't many good masks of "bat monsters" out there.

I was a long time warming up to this DPS character. They were only produced in
the early 1980s but I didn't score mine until 2012 >

This being my 666th post, we just have to discuss something demonic: Don Post's 900 line DEMON !
I've owned five copies since its debut in their 1976 catalog >

In January of that year, I scored a first edition copy. This is the first pic I ever took of it >

DEMON was my favorite of all those early 900 series characters.

For one shot, I even recreated the DPS catalog image with shaggy tunic and chains >

It was rather thinly cast and only survived a few more years in my possession, counting the abuse
it endured in my amateur monster movies of the 1970s >

It wasn't until 2008 that I scored a second vintage copy through the generosity of Eric Austin at The HMA/MaskFest >

Two years later I got Dr Shocker's personal copy from his House of Horrors, a 1987 version with
alternate paint scheme. It was only in fair condition but these original reds are really scarce >

During 2015/2016 I scored my last two copies in rapid succession,
the first being a 2001 Retro line reissue ...

... but the best was yet to come: within a year, a special collector's edition was made available with
custom Tharp finish! Mine was painted up like my 1987 original red with those creepy blank eyes.
After this, there'll be no need for any more >

I've finally got enough "DEMONs running all through me"!
