There are several Distortions Unltd masks which never appeared in any catalogues. Among them is
The Evil ZEEZOID, so named because it was produced exclusively for a chain of magic shops called
Zeezo's. Mine retailed for $100 which was quite expensive for a rubber mask back in June 1980.
All the best alien characters originated at Distortions >

I had only just started collecting masks from independent artists when this ad first appeared
in Starlog magazines of the late 1970s. Although designed and marketed by renowned
illustrator Bill Nelson, the mask itself was created by Kirk Brady who had already established
his own studio and custom mask line. By August '79 an Ultimate Alien had arrived at my
doorstep >

Soon after, I draped myself in sheets of Qiana and wore it to a few sci fi conventions >

The character gained further notoriety with its appearance on a 1980 magazine cover >

I last saw it offered in an early Death Studios catalog along with other K Brady creations >

Many different alien masks have invaded us since but the simple sinister symmetry of this
cosmically cool character is calling for a comeback. Death Studios, do you copy loud and clear?

After Post Studios surrendered licensing to produce Universal's Monsters, they released
generic versions of the most popular characters. Of the ones on this late 1970s catalog
page, my favorite was the 808 MUMMY >

Mine cost me $16.99 in January 1980. It was cast in thick vinyl and not especially comfortable
to wear but I liked it as a departure from previous versions DPS had marketed over the past
decade or so >

I never masqueraded in a mummy costume with it, figuring it worked just as well as a zombie.
Even monsters can perform double duty on occasion >

Apologies for another conglomeration pic, but this seemed like it might fit in this thread.

Up top are four 1970s Ben Cooper masks I bought last month in celebration of our favorite time of year. On the top closet shelf we have a Shock Monster mask, and DPS reissues of Dracula and the Mole People. I even bought some old Halloween costumes for the first time, but those will be posted in another thread at some point.

Those four BC masks are colorful and fun. I'm trying to imagine them with eyes inside looking out.
As to that trio on the shelf below, all are collectibles one can't just buy from any store. Where did
you find them, horrorhunter?

I bought those from Dennis Druktenis back around 2002. I can't remember what the Shock Monster cost (probably around $30-$40), but the DPS reissue Dracula was $50 and the DPS reissue Mole People was $40. They have the original tags but no boxes. The DPS Creature mask I bought from him in the same order was $100 and came with the box.

Is that a Universal Mummy, or just a generic one?

Those cups are from the set of 20  8 oz. Monster cups given away by 7-Eleven in 1976/1977 with the purchase of a drink (Slurpee). They featured cartoony generic monsters and look pretty cool. I like the artwork. Here's a pic of a few I lifted off the interwebbings:

Cool!

Wow, 70 bucks for the Shock Monster. It seems like I gave less than that for it, but I could be wrong. Maybe he cut the price for one of his "Scarehouse" sales. Anyway, I'm sure about the prices I paid him for the DPS reissues- $40 for Mole People, $50 for Dracula, $50 for Metaluna Mutant, and $100 for the Creature. They all came new with tags and the Creature came in the stylized box. Back around that same time I ordered the Kelly Mann reissue of Verne Langdon's Zombie mask from an ad in the back of Scary Monsters. It seems like it was around $140 but I may not be remembering that right. I do remember it being somewhat expensive but I had to have it because I loved the cover of the 1972 Creepy Annual and seeing those Langdon Zombie mask ads from the early '70s. I received #15/30.

I used to buy monster junk from Dennis all the time. I bought a copy of all of his mags, even the limited issues, and bought a lot of stuff at great prices from his "scarehouse" sales. I met him at the 2001 Monster Bash. I have Scary Monsters junk all over the house. I quit buying the mag when it changed ownership though, so I have everything up to issue 100. That was about the time I quit buying new monster mags, except for The Creeps, and now Warrant's new title Vampiress Carmilla.
