Aw, man...

I always liked Rip Torn, especially when he portrayed SouthWest or western characters.  Remember him in Defending Your Life?

I never could figure out why he wasn't tapped to do more important roles.  I always suspected he was hampered by having a name that so many confused with that other Hollywood Rip.

I hate losing great character actors.  Once they are gone, they are gone.  There will always be another heroic, pretty boy lead, but where will we get more of the compelling character actors that we so love to discover in the minor roles of our favorite films?

He may not have been on a lot of Hollywood gossip paper covers.  His name may not have been on everybody's lips.  But he was certainly a treasured presence in many movies.

Goodbye, Rip.  I hope the guy you have to defend your life to goes easy on you.


I'm gonna pop Flashpoint in the player.  I like him in that.
