40 Years of ALIEN
« on: May 24, 2019, 05:36:26 PM »
This month sees the Fortieth(!) anniversary of the release of ALIEN(1979)..the Xenomorph has come along way in adventures since then and formed a legacy rarely enjoyed by modern horror characters.  It introduced us to the aliens, space corporations, synthetic humanoids and more. Let's take a look at it's evolution through the years.

ALIEN(1979) Original design by H.R.Giger

The awful facehugger parasite:

ALIEN 3(1991)

We get yet another version of the xenomorph in the weird raptor/dog-like alien..as the creatures terrorize a prison colony.

ALIEN VS PREDATOR(2004)

Two prolific monster franchises clash onscreen finally after years of comic book and video game fiction put them together..call this what you will, the results were still visually exciting even if the story wasnt top notch.

ALIENS VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM(2007)

In this installment, we get not only a battlefront in a suburban Earth town, but also see a hideous Xenomorph/Predator hybrid..the casualty count is high in this one.

PROMETHEUS(2012)

We finally get to see the origins of the Xenomorphs in this prequel to the first ALIEN..apparently, they are a genetically designed response by an alien culture to wipe out undesirable races such as man..

ALIEN: COVENANT(2017)

You cant keep a good monster down for long as this sequel to PROMETHEUS shows..set some years after the last film, the plot deals with the spread of the Xenomorph infestation from it's original planet to realms beyond..surely to return yet again in the future.

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

Classic series! It has had it's ups and downs and has never topped the first two, but I've still collected all the sequels on DVD.  :)

Same here! I agree about the ups and downs but it has still been an entertaining ride for the most part.

Well, the downs weren't all that far down.

Alien is a fun film franchise. Alien(1979) and Aliens(1986) are my two faves. But the other films are really good, too.
Prometheus, definitely captured the classic Alien aesthetic.
