Apparently "The Curse of La Llorona" is a "Conjuring" Film

**mild spoiler**

According to the above review, the character of Father Perez, the priest who assisted Mia and John in the first Annabelle movie, makes a brief appearance, even citing a past experience he had with a haunted doll. Included with this brief reminiscence is a quick black and white shot of the titular doll, Annabelle.

"La Llorona" is being directed by Michael Chavez, who has recently been tapped to direct "The Conjuring 3" and it is being produced by Conjuring architect James Wan, so this isn't terribly surprising news. What IS perplexing is the insistence that "La Llorona" was a standalone movie with no ties to the larger Conjuring-verse. It also seems strange that the movie would not be marketed as the next installment given the popularity of the franchise.

What do you think? Does this superficial tie-in pique your interest in the movie at all, or would it be better suited as a standalone, separate franchise?

Perhaps it's a Dracula Untold situation where an unrelated movie got something added after reshoots to tie it into the wider universe?

Ever since I saw the film "Curse of the Crying Woman", I have liked the legend it was loosely based on. So this film was already on my radar. Being part of the Conjuring Universe just adds sprinkles to my cupcake, lol.

It's been rumored as being part of the Conjuring universe for awhile so it isn't really surprising; I'll judge the film on it's own merits.
